Check out our latest collaboration with Hanyang University, resulting in a groundbreaking study published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces (ACS Publications). Titled “Rationally Designed Li-Ag Alloy with In-Situ-Formed Solid Electrolyte Interphase for All-Solid-State Lithium Batteries,” the study reveals applying the Li (Lithium)-Ag (Silver) anode with SEI (Solid Electrolyte Interphase) to all-solid-state lithium batteries can bring enhanced stability at room temperature. The Li-Ag anode helps lithium to be distributed uniformly, thus suppressing the generation of dendrites. Moreover, it enables the simultaneous formation of an electrochemically formed SEI layer in a single process, improving process efficiency. On Monday, June 24th, SK On signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ExxonMobil for a lithium offtake agreement as part of its efforts to strengthen the #battery supply chain in the U.S. Through the collaboration, SK On will be able to secure up to 100,000 metric tons of lithium from ExxonMobil Low Carbon Solutions project in #Arkansas. SK On plans to use the supplied lithium for its battery manufacturing across the region. The company currently operates two electric vehicle battery plants in Commerce, Georgia, and is building four plants in #Tennessee, #Georgia, and #Kentucky through joint ventures with global #automakers. Park Jong-jin, Executive Vice President of Strategic Procurement at SK On, stated: “SK On has been working with global partners to secure key battery raw materials in a move to support our growing U.S. manufacturing base and lead #electrification. SK On and a research team from the The University of Texas at Austin, led by late Professor John Goodenough and Professor Hadi Khani, co-developed a new type of polymer electrolyte called #SIPE (Single-Ion conducting Polymer Electrolyte) for lithium metal batteries that can operate at room temperature. SIPE has high mechanical durability and thermal stability, which make it suitable for mass production and withstand high temperatures. Applying SIPE to next-generation batteries will help improve charging speed and low-temperature performance. Kim Tae-kyung, Head of the Next-Generation Battery Center at SK On, said: "Following this accomplishment, we expect to accelerate further the development of solid-state batteries utilizing polymer electrolytes. A little while ago, SK On executives and employees came together for a town hall meeting.
