A UNESCO Category 2 Center striving for youth development and engagement through martial arts

소개

UN, at its 70th session of the General Assembly in September 2015, noted “Sport is also an important enabler of sustainable development.” Martial arts, especially, is perceived as an educational method that can help develop not only the body, but also the mind through teaching values and positive mind-sets, which in turn contribute in cultivating a culture of peace and reconciliation. UNESCO ICM, a Category 2 Centre of the UNESCO Social and Human Sciences sector,, was established in December 2015, upon agreement between the Korean government and UNESCO, with aim to develop and engage youth using martial arts. UNESCO ICM’s roles include, research and knowledge sharing, youth capacity building, North-South cooperation, and managing a clearing house on martial arts.
