Not your average wind tunnel! ☝️🤙✌️ Last week, U.S. Army Green Berets assigned to Special Operations Command-Korea participated in combined High Altitude High Opening (HAHO) jump proficiency training with Soldiers from ROK Special Warfare Command in a vertical wind tunnel at a training range in Icheon, Republic of Korea, Oct. 8, 2024. The controlled environment of the vertical wind tunnel enables personnel to closely evaluate and improve skills needed to conduct a HAHO jump, prior to advancing to those in rotary or fixed-wing aircraft. The HAHO jump is one of many skills that SOF personnel train to proficiency in order to conduct various special operations missions and functions. These types of jumps enable special operators to infiltrate from high altitudes in addition to traveling significant distances from the point of exiting an aircraft to a predetermined drop zone. Last week U.S. Green Berets assigned to Special Operations Command-Korea participated in the first Korea international sniper competition hosted by 대한민국 국방부/ROK MND, September 11, at a range training area in Gwangju, Republic of Korea. The team enhanced their sniping capabilities while maintaining quick reflexes under dynamic conditions that included the ability to navigate austere terrain, side-arm firing in a 360-degree range, high-speed drone targets, and long-range firing lanes at over 1000 meters. All this while sharing and discussing skills that lead to increased interoperability with other teams from the various nations participating. #SOCKOR #ConcilioProveho #Sniper

Help us take time to recognize the great support we receive from Special Operations Detachment Korea (SOD-K) in our training and readiness. Assigned to the Colorado Army National Guard, SOD-K brings a special set skills tailored toward the USSOCOM core activity of countering weapons of mass destruction. The training and relationship building that SOD-K invested over the past decades was visibly recognized during Ulchi Freedom Shield 2024 when two personnel were awarded the Korea Defense Service Medal for more than 60 nonconsecutive days served in the Korean area of operations. Multi-domain operations, Joint and combined forces planning together, special reconnaissance across various terrains, and enhanced readiness, just a typical day at SOCKOR! Recently US Army Green Berets from the 1st Special Forces Group - Airborne, 대한민국 특수전사령부 / ROK Special Warfare Command, and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit aviators completed a joint training exercise during the first week of Ulchi Freedom Shield 24, demonstrating their ability to plan and conduct operations across a variety of domains. The combined training included night-time land navigation, special reconnaissance, simulated air strikes during terminal guidance operations training, and joint partner missions over several days and nights in the Korean mountainous terrain. Even rain from a passing a typhoon didn’t stop the training, fortifying the integrated deterrence posture and response capabilities of our combined forces. UFS 24 reinforces the role of the alliance as a cornerstone for regional peace and security, reaffirming the ironclad commitment between the United States and the Republic of Korea to defend their homelands. Recently, SOCKOR hosted a Joint Combined Exchange Training at Kunsan Air Base, demonstrating their interoperability with coalition special operations forces (SOF) partners in realistic training environments. The training provided opportunities for U.S. and ROK SOF to work through language barriers, exchange tactics techniques, and procedures, to gain a better understanding of how they can better leverage each other’s capabilities during real-world contingency operations. Over the last two weeks, Naval Special Warfare (NSW) operators conducted realistic, advanced-tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) and Multiple Assault Counter - Terrorism Action Capabilities Operator Course (MACTAC) training with their Republic of Korea (ROK) Naval Special Warfare Flotilla counterparts, Special Operations Unit ROK police, and ROK Coast Guard’s Sea Special Attack Team. NSW are our nation’s elite maritime special operations force, uniquely positioned to extend the reach Joint forces as well as gain and maintain access in competition and conflict in any theater. This localized training was hosted by the ROK Coast Guard’s SSAT and focused on our ability to work together at the tactical level, while also improving life-saving skills in simulated combat scenarios. Special operations forces conduct routine training repetitions and maintain readiness for a variety of situations, ensuring we maintain an credible integrated deterrence posture and can defend against aggression if needed. #sockor #wegotogether #ConcilioProveho USSOCOM
