Truth, justice, and reconciliation: as stated by GC Secretary General Manfred Nowak, these are the three essential components of a 'just transition.' This ambitious topic is the focus of the 2024 Global Campus Student Conference, happening right now! 💪 Fantastically hosted and co-organized by the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, the event has brought together over 30 students from the 8 GC Master’s programmes in the Kyrgyz capital. The students have engaged deeply with Prof. Saniia Toktogazieva, whose keynote speech focused on constitutional analysis, emphasising the critical role of state authority design and architecture in protecting constitutional and universal rights. We look forward to continuing the conversation over the next three days with five student panels, learning from diverse case studies spanning from Chile to Lebanon, and from Mauritius to Bosnia and Herzegovina. These discussions will explore the transitions from dictatorships or authoritarian structures to democratic ones, examining what can facilitate such changes and what obstacles or challenges might hinder genuine transitions. The International Student Conference on “Just Transition: Conditions for Change in the Global Order” kicked off at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek today. 🌍 This event marks a revitalised edition of the GC Global Classroom, a flagship research and networking programme for students, hosted this time by Global Campus Central Asia Master's Programme in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS). Dr. Kate Walker and Prof. Dr. Anja Mihr welcomed students and introduced the topic of the conference. Manfred Nowak, Global Campus of Human Rights, Melis Mamadaliev, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Amb. Alexey Rogov, OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, highlighted the importance of student-led initiatives and international cooperation. With Prof. Saniya Toktogazieva delivered a keynote speech on “Fundamental and Constitutional Rights in Central Asia.” Throughout the week, 25 students from the eight GC regional Master's programmes will present their research papers on transitology processes within their respective regions and discuss with more than 20 faculty members from all regional programmes how these processes address the conditions for a Global Order at the Issyk-Kul Lake.
