  • [EN] 🌱 This year’s RedLAC Conference places a strong emphasis on achieving the global 30x30 initiative. The 30x30 conservation goal aims to protect 30% of the world's terrestrial and marine habitats by 2030. At the opening of the RedLAC Congress, Professor Dale Webber, Director of the Centre for 🐋 Marine Sciences at the University of the West Indies, presented a roadmap for how this goal can be realised in the Caribbean region. He highlighted five key considerations for advancing 30x30: 1. Defining ecosystem diversity and regional priorities, 2. Climate change adaptation, 3. Community engagement and integration of traditional knowledge, 4. Regional cooperation and shared resources, and 5. Sustainable financing and economic diversification. 🪼 RedLAC 2024 Congress is supported by the BioSPACE Project, which is being implemented by the OECS and funded by the European Union. #SDG4 #SDG2 #SDG13 #CaribbeanBiodiversity #CaribbeanPathTo2030 #RedLACcongress2024 #RedLACSaintLucia [FR] 🌱 La conférence RedLAC de cette année met fortement l'accent sur la réalisation de l'initiative mondiale 30x30. This Congress brings together conservationists, environmentalists, and policymakers to discuss critical environmental issues, including biodiversity protection and climate resilience, with a particular focus on achieving the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Notably, this is the first time the RedLAC Congress is being hosted by an Eastern Caribbean nation. 🌴 🐂 The OECS continues to actively pursue biodiversity conservation in the region through the support of international partners like the European Union (EU).
