In many ways “Bloom” is a perfect album. What the creative force behind ARBRVTÆ rather prosaically describes as “an amalgam of field recordings, ersatz percussion and synthesizers” ends up being so much more than its individual parts.

From a colorful palette of natural ambient sources like – among many other things – cicadas, crickets, crows, frogs and rain the album draws the mental image of a heavily vegetated biotope; warm sunlight flickering through leaves rustling in the wind. Synthesizers, a fretless bass, AM radio noise and even pots and pans are the tools with which those spectacular images are so expertly drawn.

There's is a very emotional and at times even dark stream running through “Bloom” – particularly in its second half. The B side starts off with what might be the strongest track of the album: “Scintilla”, an epically large piece that's verging on being Dreampunk.

ARBRVTÆ puts on display a refreshing versatility on “Bloom”. There isn't a dull moment on the album. Their follow-up albums “Zephyr Skylab” and “Ocellata Obscura” continue the musical journey beginning on “Bloom” and come highly recommended!
