Our platform allows young people to grow, refine their skills, and become the best versions of themselves. Executing a project of this scale involves hundreds of tasks—from planning and PR campaigns to hands-on cleanup efforts. In just two hours of #cleanup, we collected tons of plastic, underscoring the urgent need for change. Everyone who joined the #ZeroPlasticTrail is demanding #mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (#EPR)—a system where producers are held accountable for the waste their products create. We urge President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Ministry of environment, Sri Lanka to prioritize this right after the upcoming elections. We are excited to share that the University of Ruhuna, renowned for its student #activism, has joined the ZeroPlastic Movement Trail to amplify awareness on the plastic crisis and push for producer responsibility. In a powerful #demonstration of commitment, these students cleaned plastic and polythene waste from roadsides, showing their dedication to a plastic pollution-free Sri Lanka. But they didn’t stop there. With a #calltoaction for change, they urged the government , President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and the Ministry of Environment to make Extended Producer Responsibility (#EPR) mandatory for plastic producers. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆: The Power of Awareness on the Plastic Problem!   We are happy to share an inspiring example of how HelpAge International Sri Lanka is making a real impact by implementing the #ZeroPlastic #Commitment #Policy developed by the ZeroPlastic Movement. Through a commitment to sustainability and the reduction of single-use plastic, they are setting a remarkable standard across their facilities. Here’s how they’re leading the way: 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 🚫 Effective from August 20th, the use of polythene lunch sheets for food packaging has been banned! 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 -Plastic cutlery has been replaced with wooden alternatives. -Visitors and customers are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles. -Only eco-friendly, plastic-free cleaning supplies are now in use. 𝗘𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 🚫 Plastic bottles, cups, plates, and polythene bags have been completely banned! The University of Rajarata's #ZeroPlastic Club is standing strong with the ZeroPlastic Movement to urge President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment ,Prabath Chandrakeerthi to make 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗘𝗣𝗥) 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 in Sri Lanka. With the Central Environmental Authority(CEA) having proposed critical amendments, now is the time for action. We’re partnering with ChakraSuthra to bring circular economy initiatives to life in 10 villages around Colombo and its suburbs!  Together, we’ll introduce Chakra Suthra’s unique #business #model to these communities, empowering them with the support of 100 dedicated #volunteer leaders from the ZeroPlastic Movement. Today marks our official gathering to formalize this #partnership. As part of this initiative, we are now inviting interested parties to submit requests on behalf of villages.We will select these villages based on predefined criteria and the recommendations of our volunteer leaders.
