Happy World Chimpanzee Day from Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection! #worldchimpanzeeday I feel so lucky to have been with my dear friends Erika Fleury, Shawn Sweeney, and Steve Ross, gathered together in DC, when we decided our Chimpanzees needed their own day! We founded WCD in 2018 and asked Jane to choose the date - she chose July 14, the date she first landed in Gombe TZ to begin her research on wild chimpanzee behavior. LCRP also initiated Liberia’s first WCD celebration that year and it is still going strong. Here’s our team wishing you all a happy World Chimpanzee Day and asking you to celebrate our closest cousins today and every day! The chimpanzees at Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection’s sanctuary in West Africa are victims of the illegal bushmeat and pet trades. Their mothers were tragically killed. Thanks to our dedicated team at LCRP, these individuals are rehabilitated so they can thrive with other chimpanzees in a natural and safe environment for their lifetimes. 🌍🐵 Happy World Chimpanzee Day! 🌳🔍 On July 14, 64 years ago, a young Jane Goodall first stepped into Gombe, Tanzania, beginning her groundbreaking research into wild chimpanzee behavior that has forever changed how we view both chimpanzees and ourselves. 🥳👏 In honor of this anniversary, the Jane Goodall Institute joined forces with NGOs like North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance, Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue & Protection , and Lincoln Park Zoo to establish #WorldChimpanzeeDay. We're now celebrating our sixth annual party for chimpanzees! 🎉 Now, it's your turn to join us! World Female Ranger Week - featured Liberia Ranger Grace Kotee-Zansi! “My inspiration was my dream to serve my country especially of the area that I love and knew if I was given the chance I would perform. I love nature and wanted to be around nature. Being a ranger, I am able to rescue some of the world’s endangered species like the western chimpanzee and the forest elephant. I work with communities on successful practices that will help them live in harmony with nature and wildlife. The challenges are always there, especially as a woman and a mother. You have to balance work with your home. Leaving your home and children for weeks without seeing them is a challenge but we get adapted to these as time goes by. We do not only create awareness but also dialogue with our families about work life and conservation.
