Today, the Nobel Prize in #Medicine was awarded to Professors Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for their groundbreaking research on microRNAs— tiny molecules that play a crucial role in regulating gene expression. These discoveries open up new possibilities for diagnosing and treating diseases such as cardiovascular conditions and neurodegenerative disorders like #Parkinson's and #Alzheimer's. Dr Yvan Devaux from the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) is also at the forefront of this research, focusing on how microRNAs can help develop innovative diagnostics and therapies for heart and brain diseases. His team's work could pave the way for new treatments for heart failure and brain damage after cardiac arrest. LIH Researchers Triumph at Science Writing Competition 🙌 Huge congratulations to LIH's very own Franco Catuogno and Carlos Vega winning the 2024 Science Writing Competition! Franco (doctoral candidate in human biomonitoring) took home first place with his thought-provoking article "Double-edged: Designed to fight pests, they became one," exploring the complex relationship with pesticides. Carlos (Research Engineer in Digital Health) secured third place with his insightful piece "The weakness of AI awaits in your fridge," which sheds light on the power and limitations of artificial intelligence in healthcare diagnostics. Both Franco and Carlos were motivated by a desire to bridge the gap between science and the public. They believe #science communication is crucial for fostering understanding and sparking curiosity about the vital research conducted right here in Luxembourg. A fantastic achievement for Franco and Carlos, and a well-deserved recognition of their talent in science communication!👏 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dNEdcTE6
