Α worth mentioning synergy of leading shipping expertise and academic excellency: this is how I would describe the Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday (29.10.2024), between the International Group of P&I (Protection and Indemnity) Clubs and the Law Faculty of Athens (LLM on Maritime Law), the first being represented by Andrew Dyer (IG Education Committee), on behalf of CEO Nick Shaw, the second by the Dean Prof. K. Christodoulou. The main purpose is to initiate a new era of advanced academic and educational cooperation on marine insurance and international maritime law issues; and we started already with a first lecture on “Introduction to the IG of P& I Clubs” delivered by Andrew Dyer, George Hartofylis and Kleia Kokkini, members of the Education Committee. We were all there! We highly appreciated the presence and active participation of most P&I Clubs, NorthStandard (Gordon Robertson), Britannia (Konstantinos Samaritis), Skuld (Leandros Kotsakis), London (Andreas Vrontakis), Swedish (Dimitra Chourdaki), Shipowners P&I Club (Alkmini Biskanaki) and, as aforementioned, Gard, American and West P&I Clubs. It was also an occassion to express gratitude to the outstanding academic staff of the LLM Program (Profs D.Tsikrikas, Christodoulou Dimitris, Effie Kinini – director, Manos Mastromanolis, CHRISTOS CHRISSANTHIS, Nikolaos Vervessos, I.Delikostopoulos, Iakovos Venieris, Dimitrios Ladas, Christina Livada, M.Markoulakis, Dr. Alexander Rokas, Eleni Karamanakou) and to our valuable Guests (Dr. Manolis Konstantinidis, Prof. Barış Soyer, Prof. George Leloudas, Prof. Theodoros SYRIOPOULOS, Dr. Loukas Zygouros). Almost 200 graduates, lawyers, judges, executives, officers, witness the common effort and the promising outcome. Ready for the second meeting, an interactive workshop on an all-inclusive case study!

Donna Purdue and Alex McCooke from the Club’s Offshore Syndicate were delighted to attend ‘Rig School’ in the USA, from 21 – 25 October. The traditional week-long training course for the offshore oil and gas industry, is provided by the Petroleum Extension (PETEX)-The University of Texas at Austin. Taking place at the home of the Gulf of Mexico’s energy industry, in Houston, the course sees attendees from all sections of the industry study offshore operations, assets and equipment – from seismic surveys and geotechnical drilling, to well drilling, production operations, insurance and maritime law. In Offshore, it’s never too early for a Christmas tree!

On Friday 25 October, the Club was delighted to host an evening reception celebrating the 15th anniversary of our office opening in Singapore. Our colleagues in Singapore welcomed close friends of the Club from the Southeast Asian maritime community and enjoyed drinks, nibbles, and a speech from Singapore Chief Executive Steve Randall, who reflected on the growth and success of the past 15 years. The Club would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the success of the Singapore office so far, here's to many more years of working together!
