We are proud to collaborate with the Ārlietu ministrija | Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia to raise awareness and build capacity for #gendermainstreaming within #security institutions. For over 20 years, DCAF has supported #securitysector reform in over 70 countries, and now we are supporting #Latvia as they advance their National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security. Together, we are exploring key themes like women’s #leadership, #diversity, preventing gender-based violence, and more, shaping a #gender-responsive security sector.

On 11 September, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia held a seminar dedicated to the United Nations "Women, Peace and Security" agenda for professionals of the defence and internal affairs sectors. Participants from the Ministries of Defence and the Interior, the National Armed Forces, the State Fire and Rescue Service, and the State Police had the opportunity to gain practical skills related to the implementation of the #UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "On Women, Peace and Security". 🗣 In her opening remarks at today’s seminar, Parliamentary Secretary Dace Melbārde highlighted: “Women’s involvement in peace processes leads to a more lasting peace, and integrating a gender perspective in the security sector enhances its effectiveness and trust”. 🔹 The seminar was led by the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance and representatives of the organisation “Women for Security”, as well as an expert in anti-corruption and good governance, Inese Voika. The event supported the public diplomacy programme for Latvia’s campaign for a seat on the UN Security Council. 📸 Ilze Salnāja, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia #LatviaUNSC #TogetherForPeaceAndResilience #WomenPeaceSecurity DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance | Women For Security

“Latvia and the Republic of Korea are like-minded partners in the security sector, and we are aware that if Russia’s aggression succeeds, it will negatively affect peace and security across the globe. Let me thank the Republic of Korea for condemning Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and I call for continued support to Ukraine. Compliance with the principles of the United Nations Charter underpins the world order,” the Foreign Minister Baiba Braze emphasised during her meeting with Cho Tae-yul, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. 🗣 “Latvia and the Republic of Korea share a common interest of strengthening political cooperation and cooperation in economy, science and defence. The Minister accepted my invitation to visit #Latvia. We discussed the development of the legal framework, in view of both the rising trade volumes and the increased number of citizens visiting our countries and settling there.” “I have invited the Republic of Korea to join the Drone Coalition established by Latvia, as well as to send an expert to work at the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence in Riga,” Baiba Braže noted. Foreign Minister Baiba Braze speaks at the Summit "Responsible Al in the Military domain" REAIMSummit. International norms of the development, application, use and validation of Al are a necessity. The use of Al in the military is a reality, we see it in Ukraine with autonomous systems, targeting, in intelligence in relation to analysis of large quantities of data, and in other spheres. An ethical approach, ensuring a human is in the decision making, is something that everyone underlined. But, we in the West, need to set up innovation and agile adoption not to be left behind by authoritarian regimes. Photo: MFA of Latvia
