🌐 Cyber attacks happens daily as we speak and they are becoming more and more dangerous as world embraces modern technology dictated life. Paradoxically, on the one hand we want technologies, IT, AI to help as to manage our problems, but on the other hand we are becoming more and more dependent on technologies. Increasingly, most of people are ready to trade their security and privacy for daily convenience or simply easier life. But it has its costs. Cyber threats and attacks executed by private actors or state actors are becoming our routine, while cyber security is lacking behind. The latest event which of 19th of July 2024 is just an example what awaits us in future and its not what many would like to see. Technologies are good only so far as we can control them and also avoid them if we decide so. This should be taken into account by our governments who embrace digitalisation of all spheres "just for benefit and convenience" of their citizens or simply because its current way of life of Global society, but the dark side of it is more control of citizens less freedoms and finally less security for all of us. #cybersecurity

🇱🇻🤝🇮🇳 Had a productive meeting today with the non-resident Indian Ambassador to Latvia, Tanmaya Lal. We talked about regional issues, the upcoming opening of the Indian Embassy in Riga, and opportunities for working together with Indian think tanks and industries.

🛳️Vivid discussion with U.S. Marine War College on the security challenges stemming from the Russian war in Ukraine. Grateful for the opportunity to meet with officers and professors from the College.

Northern Europe Policy Centre had a pleasure to welcome scholars and students from U.S. Air Force War College. Interesting discussion on geopolitics and current security threats to Western alliance.

“We [people in Latvia] feel that we were not consulted enough,” former Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks said, referring to the selection process for the NATO top job. “They [Western countries] had reasons behind to think that Baltic countries should not at this moment be proposing a candidate.” #NATO #WeAreNATO

🌐 One of this year's most significant diplomatic battles will be persuading our allies that the quantity of military aid and our support for Ukraine on the path to eventual NATO membership are crucial for the security of all of Europe. #NATO #Ukraine #EuropeanSecurity

Countries bordering Russia and with experience of Russian occupation see Russia as existential threat and looked upon NATO as safe heaven against Russian aggression. Western hesitation to support Ukrainian fight against Russian invaders in full capacity rises new doubts about Western willingness to stand against despotism in an event of War. #NATO
