📍#CFS52 - FAO Headquarters, Rome Earlier today, on the sidelines of the Committee on World Food Security (#CFS52), we proudly co-organized a side event with Morocco and PSM, focusing on #ReducingInequalities in #FoodSystems through enterprise and entrepreneurship. Hosted at #FAO Headquarters in Rome, the event highlighted how innovative solutions and entrepreneurship can transform #FoodSecurity for vulnerable communities. 🌱 - Abdellah Larhmaid, Deputy Permanent Representative of Morocco, noted: “Support for smallholder farmers is a key pillar in reducing inequalities in food systems. Through targeted initiatives, we empower them to thrive and contribute to resilient, sustainable food systems.” Mr. Larhmaid added, “Collective action is essential; we cannot work in silos. By fostering public-private partnerships, we address the structural barriers to accessing finance, ensuring inclusive and #SustainableFoodSystems for all.” - Kenneth Obayuwana, CEO of Agritech Digest, addressed the essential role of funding and incubation: “Funding and market access are real challenges startups face. Supporting them with incubation and holistic solutions will make agri-startups more attractive.” - Rachid Moussadek, Senior Principal Scientist at ICARDA; International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas, highlighted the role of youth in sustainable agriculture: “Youth is more willing to make changes on the ground. It is important to connect them to our sustainable knowledge.” He pointed to #Tourba and Al Moutmir as examples of science-backed initiatives that empower #farmers and help close yield gaps. - Younes Addou, VP of Agribusiness and Sustainability at INNOVX, emphasized the importance of innovation: “We need to innovate by providing solutions that not only address #FoodSecurity issues but also create environmental value.” He continued, “Collaboration and partnerships are essential to foster a sustainable agricultural transition. New #incubation models holistically support startups as they scale activities for #SmallholderFarmers.” Through collaborative efforts like these, we’re committed to empowering rural communities and driving a more equitable global food system. 🌿 🌍

Today, at the ATLAS Lab Session, we convened key leaders from the public, private, and philanthropic sectors to address the financing gap in #AfricanAgriculture. During this panel discussion co-hosted by Paris Peace Forum, OCP Group, UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in partnership with Somalia, Our Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. Leonardus Vergütz, highlighted the vast potential of African agriculture, which currently contributes approximately 20% to the continent's GDP although it employs 60% of its workforce. Dr. Leonardus remarked, "#Africa possesses about 60% of the world's uncultivated arable land, presenting a remarkable opportunity to enhance global #FoodSecurity. However, we must confront significant challenges, including a $200 billion annual financing shortfall." He stressed the importance of forging effective public-private partnerships to assist farmers in adopting sustainable practices. “Through initiatives like the collaboration between IFC - International Finance Corporation and OCP Group, we aim to mobilize $800 million in blended capital by 2030 to strengthen agricultural value chains and reduce dependency on subsidies and food imports”. "Together, we can drive greater political focus and investment in African agriculture, enhancing food security and fostering a sustainable future for our communities," he added. #Investment #SDGs #UNGA79 #AfricanAgriculture

At #ClimateWeekNYC, we had impactful discussions led by our Chief Global Affairs Officer, Meriem El Asraoui and our Chief Sustainability & Innovation Officer, Hanane Mourchid. 🟢 Meriem El Asraoui participated in the International Agri-Food Network (IAFN) event titled "Commit to Grow Equality: A Global Commitment to Enhancing Gender Equality in Agrifood Systems through Financing and Partnerships by 2030." She emphasized the crucial role of women in agriculture, stating, « Over 50% of Africa’s agricultural labor is performed by women, yet they face significant barriers in land access and decision-making. OCP AFRICA is dedicated to promoting women's inclusion through initiatives like the Women in Agribooster and Maison des Femmes programs, which empower women with resources, training, and access to markets. » 🟢 Hanane Mourchid also joined a high-level discussion organized by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) dedicated to climate action in the context of water scarcity. She emphasized: « As part of our climate adaptation efforts, we are unlocking the full potential of OCP's innovative ecosystem, fast-tracking capabilitie, and harnessing clean energy to urgently deliver cost competitive potable water to our communities, including the landlocked regions were we operate. Today, 125 Mm3/ year of desalinated industrial and potable water is already produced, and more than 100Mm3/year additional capacity is under construction. » #OCPForClimate #SustainableAgriculture #WomenEmpowerment #GreenWater
