Ca-Pizzal Hill

The 1990s in the United States were marked by an array of cultural phenomena, from grunge music and hip-hop to the rise of the internet. Yet, among all these trends, an unexpected and quirky phenomenon emerged that seemed to foreshadow a looming crisis: pizza sales. Yes, you read that right—pizza, that beloved comfort food, appeared to have a unique power to predict national crises during this fascinating era.

It so happened that Frank Meeks, who owned 60 Domino’s Pizza stores in Washington, DC, noticed that 72 hours before a major global event was announced to the public, pizza deliveries to US government offices would skyrocket. Frank called this the Pizza Meter.

Whenever there was an emergency situation building up or an upcoming crisis was at hand, the staff at US government buildings would start working round the clock, and that meant people were staying for longer hours in the office and so ordering pizza to satiate their hunger.

Frank’s theory successfully predicted historical incidents such as the US invasion of Panama, the People Power Revolution in the Philipines, and the Gulf War.

In fact, just before the start of the Gulf War, pizza orders from the White House went from just under 50 to a whopping 125 a day. While the Pentagon, increased their daily Pizza orders by 6 times!

However, the US government has thus stopped ordering large quantities of pizza from a single vendor and has started sending people to pick up orders, ever since Frank has made his Pizza Meter public.
