I was checking my various stats last night and started thinking about my role as a Boost Nominator. I’ve nominated scores of stories (that word ‘stories’ covers the gamut — narratives, memoirs, poems) for the coveted boost.

Since June of 2023, I’ve nominated over 100 stories which were subsequently boosted on the platform — various writers’ stories from our pubs. The Narrative Arc, The Wind Phone, Imogene’s Notebook, Travel Memoirs, Seen on Screen, The Penny Pub, and Walking Camino (four different publishers own these pubs, by the way; we are a cooperative of sorts). That isn’t the tally of our boosted stories, but I’ve personally nominated and seen boost occur with more than 100 boosted stories.

I’ve rarely gone outside my own pubs to nominate, but on occasion, I have found obscure essays I nominate. Note: ‘best practices’ include nominating from submissions queues, so before a strong piece is published, it has been nominated for a boost, typically. That ensures that curators aren’t getting slammed with the same nominations over and over again.
