Poor training and its consequences Learning to deal through video is a really bad idea. Firstly, because it seems that only bad dealers offer video tutorials. This one caught our eye, and to understand poor training, you need to be able to see the consequences of it. Firstly, the size-cut, as we explain to our trainees, is the easiest chip exercise there is because the chips do all the work. The drop-cut is the hardest because your fingers do all the work and have to position themselves in ways they have never tried before. This size-cut explains that the little finger and thumb are used to push the chips forward to be sized in. Only the little finger is used because this helps teach the fingers where to position for the drop cut. If a new trainee dealer were to follow this video, they would have to reprogram their fingers to ignore the previous instructions and positioning. So, what’s the big deal? Well, the drop-cut is used in every casino game, and accuracy and speed are paramount. Many casino academies fail to teach it because they find it too difficult to teach. We teach it from day 2. Dealers with long nails. It’s always been a no, but it's 2024, times have changed, and maybe your casino permits the dealing staff to grow or wear long nails. But are the trainee dealers aware of the consequences? With long nails, the dealer is unable to chip-up chips (mucking), unable to feel a stack of 20, unable to pencil (wipe) chips from a stack, unable to take and move a single stack with the index curled on top, unable to spin a ball, unable to pick chips from a stack, push and retrieve multiple stacks, unable to cut and place bets on the layout, unable to drop cut, and, by the looks of the video, are going to struggle to size cut. The consequences of accepting and training dealers with long nails should be explained. Firstly, this is going to predominantly affect the female employees. They will be unable to perform the tasks required, which will hold them back if they decide to pursue a career in the casino industry. This may result in lower salaries and being limited to simple games. If they manage to advance in their career, they will always be less talented than the employees who are supposed to be developing and managing. The long-nailed dealer will always be slower than other dealers and limited in the games they can deal. If they decide to cut their nails and work like their colleagues, they will have to start training from scratch and relearn how to position their fingers. It's also worth considering that any casino allowing long nails may have their own reasons. They may want to have attractive females dealing at tables and, in addition to paying them less, they may avoid covering the expenses of nail maintenance.

Fairly standard dealing in Sin City ... but the dealer is not talking up the game, any pit supervisor in the vicinity has no idea what is going on at any time unless standing directly at the table, no verbal interaction with the players, and the dealer's hands are continually taken away from the table, adjusting apron without showing clean hands, dealer watches the wheel on ball dropping and not standing at the table, then using one hand to isolate the number, no drop cut on opening up the bet, the supervisor has a split second to agree or disagree with the payout as no initial announcement before preparing the payout, no eye contact on paying winnings to the winning player. This skills level has either been taught in the training school therefore the school has no idea how negatively impacting their training is affecting the business, or these habits were evolved by little to no feedback, corrective measures and employee development. This style of game dealing leaves itself out to so many internal and/or external scams, errors, weak customer service, unnecessarily slowing the game, lower hold and much less tips. It's a lose-lose situation for all stakeholders

Bally's catch their first cheat in Chicago, but not with the help of surveillance. The first person to be criminally charged with cheating at the new Bally’s Casino in downtown Chicago is Isaias Garcia-Martinez, 51, who was accused of placing a $25 chip on a 200-to-1 side bet at a baccarat table after the cards were dealt and the outcome of the hand was known. After the Floor manager called the CCTV for a review and given the all-clear the dealer paid him $5,000. The dealer wasn't happy and an hour later mentioned to the FM that he was sure the winning bet was a cheat move after the cards were dealt. The FM asked the surveillance to make another review and they came back that it was indeed and late bet of placing on the triple side bet if both Player and Banker have triple 7's. The incident occurred on Sunday, and after receiving the $5,000 payout Garcia-Martinez cashed out and left the casino. Feeling lucky he was arrested when he decided to come back to the casino on Tuesday morning. @AACASINO can explain and demo to any CCTV department how a facial recognition platform can identify known cheats from a global database on entry to the casino 24/7 for a fraction of the cost of only one team member dedicated to cheat detection. https://bit.ly/3HDds88 Some would argue that paying out 200-1 on a 400-1 possibility could also come under a definition of theft Bally's opened to the public on Sept. 9, 2023, and this is the first cheat being arrested at their new temporary home at Medinah Temple in River North But not by surveillance. New casinos are notorious for attracting opportunists and professional cheats so the fact none have surfaced in 4 months is a worrying concern.

Improving Accuracy and Speed in Blackjack Some casino dealers really care about their work and want to be the best at dealing Blackjack. They strive for accuracy, style, and smoothness in their game. When a dealer takes pride in their work and constantly tries to improve, it makes their job easier. They can focus on the game, the players, and their peripheral vision while their hands work automatically. This makes the games smarter and faster. Areas for Improvement After we watched this video of a dealer and noticed a few things they could do better: 1. Slapping Down the Players' Cards The dealer has a bad habit of slapping the players' cards on the table. This might look cool to him, but it's not the best way to do it. If the cards are placed directly in front of the players, in a straight line, it's neater, faster, and more accurate. 2. Not Pointing to the Players' Cards When the dealer asks the players for their decisions, they should point to their cards. This helps speed up the decision-making process. 3. Unorganized Placement of the Dealers' Cards The dealer's cards are placed haphazardly on the table. It would be better if they were neatly arranged side by side. This takes up less space and makes it easier for players and CCTV to read the cards. 4. Not Sizing into the Winning Bets When paying out winnings, the dealer should size in the chips. This makes the process faster, more accurate and provides proof to CCTV and any supervisor that the payment is correct. 5. Picking Up Dealers' Cards First After a hand is finished, the dealer picks up their cards first. It would be better if they picked up their cards last. This gives the player more time to see the dealer's hand and allows the dealer to move slightly faster. It's also important to have the dealer's cards on top in the discard pile, so if a player wants to see the dealer's hand again, it can be done quickly and easily. 6. Using One Hand for Blackjack (3-2) Payouts When paying out a blackjack, the dealer should use two hands. This gives the CCTV a clearer view of the payment accuracy, reminds the player it's a blackjack, and creates a moment for the player to offer a tip. Plus, it just looks nicer. 7. Using Two Hands to Deal The dealer in the video is only using one hand to deal. It would be faster and smoother if they used two hands. This adds fluidity to the pace of the game and saves time on unnecessary hand movements. How to Improve? Retraining is simple. First, the dealer's pace needs to be measured. Then, corrective measures can be taken through a series of drills. Finally, the dealer's pace should be measured again to see the improvement. Firstly senior management! They need an awareness of the pace of their games, Number of spins, Hands, and Length of shuffle. How many in here have daily target analysis on game productivity? None? Floor feedback! Discuss analysis results monthly with floor managers and hold them accountable for poor productivity. Discuss together aspects that could be changed to improve productivity. New dealer training! The fluidity of the game should be a priority, Focusing on chip and calculation skills. Measure and graduate only trainees who progress in their results over the duration of the school. Experienced dealer re-training! Measure existing staff in chip and calculation skills. Assist poor performers to improve and positively recognise high performers which demonstrates to the team that this is the direction to be going. Surveillance! Measuring game productivity should be incorporated into daily CCTV tasks. The analysis also brings to light infractions and gives CCTV an awareness of productivity which can be commented upon in the regular daily reports. Ego! Accept change if factual data demonstrates improvement. It will also help in meetings with owners when questions are asked about poor win results. https://bit.ly/493p28b
