We’ve kicked off PLAYCON 2024 in spectacular fashion! 💬 The expo opened with a special keynote speech from the Minister for the Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri, who highlighted the journey so far of Malta’s video game, esports and immersive tech sectors , showcasing a list of important milestones reached and celebrating how this industry is actively growing in Malta. 🇲🇹Following this, GamingMalta CEO Ivan Filletti moderated a panel discussion titled “Malta: A Stage For Your Global Ambitions,” alongside George Gregory, CEO of Malta Enterprise, and Aldo Joseph Giordano, Consultant at Malta Venture Capital - MVC. The panel highlighted how these entities are geared up towards supporting these sectors and tangibly showcasing how local and international players in this space can benefit from the various support measures on offer. 🎉And that’s not all! We also celebrated a significant milestone as Hong Kong-based esports powerhouse Talon Esports announced their decision to set up operations in Malta! This is a massive win for our growing esports ecosystem. With Malta having already hosted renowned events like the ESL Pro League, attracting over 800,000 ccu viewers, Talon’s presence will further cement our position as a hub for digital innovation and elite esports. ODIN Malta earlier this week hosted the Gaming - Malta & Beyond, mixer event, featuring a lineup of game development companies, industry veterans, esports organisations, educational institutions, and more. In the opening panel moderated by Simon Theuma , our CEO, Ivan Filletti, spoke of the diverse aspects of the local game dev industry, highlighting GamingMalta's support and journey together with the necessary steps for further growth. Over two engaging panels, participants shared insights and explored the exciting opportunities that lie ahead, featuring a range of individuals contributing to the development of the game dev landscape on our island, including educators, business strategists, and leaders in game development, immersive technology, and esports.
