I recently gave this interview to Malta Digital Innovation Authority who I'd like to thank for this opportunity to showcase what a trailblazer I was back in 2014-2015 to push the idea of Malta's first #techstartup #accelerator. I had friends and colleagues call me crazy and delusional. But we produced amazing results like Weavr.io, BrainTrip, FreeHour Malta, Wirestock, Holoroad sp. z o. o. Leet, SiWeGO, all starting from an idea, and all totalling over €55 million in private equity investment. I did it somehow, thanks to the invaluable support from MITA (Malta Information Technology Agency) and team mates like Jarek Bialek and Deborah Schiavone 😍 Since then the Malta startup space has grown and now numbers at least FOUR accelerators operating from here like MALTAccelerate, Plug and Play, Supercharger and Maltaccelera8. https://lnkd.in/dedp4jHY

📣 Exciting news for our startups’ community! MIMCOL and MALTAccelerate signed an MOU to frame their collaboration and integrate the #SeedInvestmentScheme within the #MaltaClimAccelerator program. Having established the alignment between the Seed Investment Scheme’s goals and the Malta ClimAccelerator objectives, this collaboration creates a robust framework to foster innovation and stimulate startups’ growth, with the potential to amplify the impact of both organisations, offering startups a comprehensive support system including financial backing, mentorship and strategic guidance. MIMCOL has been closely monitoring the significant strides and impactful activities led by MALTAccelerate in fostering innovation and supporting the growth of startups in Malta, recognising the Maltese accelerator’s commitment to cultivating the development of a vibrant ecosystem via propelling high growth startups towards success. The Seed Investment Scheme has proved to be a catalyst for startups development, providing crucial financial support and resources to navigate the challenges of equity funding. It fills me with joy to meet MITA #YouStartIT alumni that have taken off as amazing entrepreneurs making a difference to the local community. Beentouch now employs 15 people and specialises in Industry 4.0 solutions. But more than that its Catania-based co-founders Danilo Mirabile and Emanuele Salvatore Accardo, who I had the pleasure to coach at the accelerator in 2018, have achieved a huge milestone for the Italian economy by co-kickstarting the #EHT consortium of 71 tech SMEs all over Italy that collectively employs over 2,900 specialists with a turnover of €395 million and plenty of big projects coming their way I hope to be a part of. More than their grit, professionalism and competence, what touches me most about Danilo and Emanuele's virtues is their humanity and passion to empower the young in a tough region like Sicily which still struggles to shake off the stigma of the mafia. In reality, I'm finding that Sicily is such an amazing place with so much entrepreneurial talent and tech prowess, and especially infinite generosity. #industry4point0 #iot #artificialintelligence #startupstories
