About us

Malta International Airport connects the Maltese archipelago to over 100 destinations in more than 30 countries. Being Malta’s only air terminal, the airport hosts more than six million passengers annually, of which the majority are inbound tourists. To be able to cater for an ever-increasing number of passengers, the company has consistently invested in the terminal since the airport’s privatisation in 2002, with the Terminal Reconfiguration Project set to be completed in 2018 bringing about the most recent overhaul. The airport campus itself has grown to provide over 1,500 parking spaces, and 14,000m² of office and retail space housed within SkyParks Business Centre, with projects in the offing set to bring about further expansion. The airport team is guided by a vision of service excellence, which has landed MIA among the top five airports in ACI’s prestigious Airport Service Quality Awards for the past nine years. To maximise its contribution to Malta’s cultural heritage and environment, MIA set up the Malta Airport Foundation, an independently run non-profit organisation, which will be unveiling three projects in 2018. Malta International Airport plc is a public company listed on the Malta Stock Exchange, with its shareholders being the Malta Mediterranean Link Consortium (40%), with Flughafen Wien AG owning a 96% share, the Government of Malta (20%), the general public (29.9%), and VIE Malta Limited (10.1%).

In light of this year’s #WorldTourismDay theme, which calls on industry stakeholders to embrace responsible tourism, in part by valuing and preserving cultural and natural heritage, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the important work being carried out by the Malta Airport Foundation. Earlier this week, we celebrated our Foundation’s 10th anniversary. What we started ten years ago, as Malta International Airport plc’s commitment to enact positive change by enriching the community within which it operates, has now evolved into something truly extraordinary. The Malta Airport Foundation was born from a desire for our company to give back, and to protect and invest in the product that we are selling to our guests: our islands’ rich history, our unique culture, and the natural beauty that surrounds us. Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of witnessing the Malta Airport Foundation flourish, as we invested over €2 million into the very heritage that makes our country such a sought-after destination, while fostering a deeper appreciation for our cultural identity among locals. The success of the Malta Airport Foundation is a shared one, and I would like to thank all the entities and organisations who have contributed to our journey thus far. Together, we are ensuring that what makes Malta unique remains at the heart of every visitor’s experience on our islands.

Celebrating ten years of the Malta Airport Foundation Back in 2014, on the 10th of September, the Malta Airport Foundation was established as a means for our airport to invest in local projects aimed at preserving and promoting our islands' rich heritage and marine environment. The decade-long journey has seen us dive into the depths of the Mediterranean Sea to explore the captivating world hidden beneath our islands, take a step back in time as we supported the restoration of buildings that saw important moments in history unfold, and support the embellishment of a few of the most remarkable churches within our neighbouring localities. Ten years on, the Foundation remains committed to leaving a lasting impact, and showcasing all that makes our Maltese Islands so incredibly unique.   For a closer look at some of the projects undertaken by the Foundation over these past years, check out the photos below, or visit maltairport.com/foundation.

  • Achieving #netzerocarbon status is part of a broader commitment to combat climate change by reducing the aviation industry's environmental impact. It is a challenging but increasingly critical objective for airports worldwide. Our latest step towards a more sustainable future is the launch of our Net Zero Carbon Plan, and the establishment of two important interim targets to ensure that we remain on the right track as we work towards our 2050 goal. • 08/08: The day our new apron, Apron 8 South, was officially integrated within aeronautical charts.

After putting the first aircraft parking stands on our new apron into service on the 31st of July, we felt that it was only fitting for us to gather the teams involved in the project to celebrate the day Apron 8 South was officially integrated within aeronautical charts. With the first phase of the project concluded, we are now focusing our efforts on seeing the construction of the remaining aircraft parking stands and adjoining facilities through to completion. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our team and stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in quite literally laying the future-proof foundations on which Malta International Airport plc will continue to grow sustainably over the years to come.

“Whereas corporate responsibility was once considered secondary to a company's core business, a company's long-term success now hinges on its ability to not only deliver a strong financial performance, but also to serve a social purpose and commit to sustainable environmental practices.” Our Head of Sustainability and Analytics Justine Baldacchino shed light on how our company is charting its path towards achieving #netzero status by 2050 in the latest edition of FIRST magazine. Read on about how our company is engaging our team members and investing in a cleaner future as we continue working towards achieving this ambitious target here: http://bit.ly/MIA-FIRST

  • Last year, Malta International Airport hosted more than 7.8 million passengers, exceeding 2019 results by 6.7% and confirming 2023 as the airport’s best performing year to date. In 2024, Malta International Airport is eyeing the 8 million passenger milestone.   At a press conference earlier today, CEO Alan Borg said that, “While travel demand has remained resilient throughout the year, we are entering 2024 with cautious optimism, as we expect to see passenger traffic growth level off over the coming months, while continuing to face macroeconomic and geopolitical headwinds.” Read more here -> https://lnkd.in/dzW92Nu9
