As part of Mediterrania Capital Partners portfolio companies’ commitment to the health and well-being of their employees, specific initiatives were carried out to support breast cancer awareness campaigns during “Pink October.” AKDITAL conducted a campaign that included a series of workshops and a free screening day for women, in collaboration with the GHAÏT Association. The workshops covered key aspects of breast cancer prevention, the importance of early detection, and the benefits of maintaining a healthy and balanced diet throughout recovery. LAPROPHAN launched a campaign in partnership with the Dar Zhor Association to raise awareness about risk factors, symptoms and the importance of early detection, while encouraging systematic screenings for better prevention. Private University of Marrakech organised two workshops on the psychotherapeutic management of breast cancer. At the end of the workshops, personalised consultations and screenings were offered. We are proud to partner with our portfolio companies as they prioritise the health and well-being of their employees. Their dedication to raising breast cancer awareness, enabling early detection and promoting proactive care can truly make a difference, ultimately saving lives. As a Board Member of AVCA - The African Private Capital Association, Albert Alsina, Founder and CEO of Mediterrania Capital Partners, delivered the closing remarks at the recent AVCA Summit in London. Albert also participated in the "Capital with a Cause" panel alongside other industry experts, where they discussed the vast potential of private capital in driving social impact across Africa. Learn about the top trends shaping the Private Equity sector in Africa in Albert's post!
This week in London, I had the privilege of attending the 2024 Annual AVCA Sustainability Africa Summit. It was an incredible event featuring outstanding speakers, insightful debates, and rich content. I had the honor of joining the panel discussion, “Capital with a Cause,” alongside industry leaders from #LeapFrog #Karimaola , #AfricaInvest #AnnWyman and #VenturePlatform #KolaAina, moderated by #JocelynMackie —such a talented group of professionals. As a board member of AVCA, I was also pleased to deliver the closing remarks. One of the key takeaways is that sustainable investing is rapidly gaining momentum in Africa, especially within the private equity (PE) sector. Investors, both global and local, are increasingly focused on generating financial returns while driving positive environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts. Here are the top trends shaping sustainable investing in Africa’s private equity landscape over the next five years: 1. Climate-Smart Investments – A growing focus on renewable energy and climate-resilient solutions. 2. Agriculture and Food Security – Investments in sustainable farming practices to ensure food security. 3. Impact Investing – Increased interest in investments that promote gender equality, social inclusion, affordable housing, and healthcare aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 4. Blended Finance Models – Combining public and private funds to maximize impact and mitigate risks. 5. Enhanced ESG Integration and Regulation – Stronger ESG frameworks and regulatory standards across industries. 6. Sustainable Infrastructure and Green Bonds – Financing environmentally friendly infrastructure through innovative financial instruments. 7. Digital Innovation and Sustainability – Leveraging technology to drive sustainable development and inclusive growth. 8. The Rise of Local and Regional PE Firms – Growing leadership from African-based firms shaping the investment landscape. 9. Circular Economy and Waste Management – Emphasis on recycling, waste reduction, and resource-efficient business models. 10. Youth Entrepreneurship and Job Creation – Supporting Africa’s expanding youth population through entrepreneurship and sustainable job creation. In summary, the future of sustainable investing in Africa’s private equity space will be driven by climate-smart innovations, impact-focused initiatives, regulatory advancements, and a strong push for local leadership. Key sectors include renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, fintech, and infrastructure, with an emphasis on digital transformation and youth empowerment. Thank you #AVCA team for organising such a content rich event !! #AVCA #Africarise #Africainvest #Leapfrog #Ventureplatform #Impactinvesting #MediterraniaCapitalpartners #mcapitalp #Africa
