Bitcoin has surged past the $90,000 mark, hitting a record $91,110 on Wednesday, as the cryptocurrency continues its unstoppable rally following Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. president. Crypto enthusiasts are riding high on Trump’s promises to turn the United States into the "crypto capital of the planet" and his push for less regulatory oversight. Bitcoin’s price has jumped 32% since election day, while Ethereum is up 37%, and Dogecoin—backed by Trump ally Elon Musk—has skyrocketed over 150%. Trump’s pro-crypto stance and recent launch of his crypto business, World Liberty Financial, have fuelled optimism in the market. Even crypto-invested firms like MicroStrategy are cashing in, with $2 billion worth of Bitcoin purchased in just two weeks. The crypto craze is showing no signs of slowing down. Is Bitcoin heading for $100K?

Deutsche Bank’s private banking division has dismissed over 100 senior bankers in a cost-cutting effort aimed at meeting ambitious financial targets for 2025. The bank, headquartered in Frankfurt, is pushing to lower its unit's cost-to-income ratio from last year’s 80 percent to a range of 60–65 percent by next year. So far in 2024, the ratio has been reduced to 77 percent. Claudio de Sanctis, who assumed leadership of the division in mid-2023, stated that achieving these targets will require further cuts and revenue growth “across all business lines.” The private bank, which includes Deutsche’s German retail banking and wealth management services, currently contributes 31 percent of the bank’s revenue but only 23 percent of its profit, highlighting its historical struggles with profitability and efficiency. The restructuring of this division is central to Deutsche CEO Christian Sewing’s strategy. Sewing, who formerly co-led the unit, replaced two previous heads who did not meet cost and profitability goals. De Sanctis, a former Credit Suisse executive, has implemented significant changes, including closing over 300 branches in Germany, merging management levels, and reducing front-office staff by 6.5 percent. The restructuring has primarily targeted highly paid senior roles, such as directors and managing directors, with the recent layoffs representing 8 percent of these roles in the division. Spending on external consultants has also been cut by 75 percent, surpassing an earlier reduction estimate of 70 percent. De Sanctis emphasized his commitment to managing costs but acknowledged that hiring in wealth management would need to resume in 2025, especially for client-facing relationship managers who provide personalized service to high-net-worth clients.
