We're pleased to share the launch of Vjal Kulħadd, a €10 million initiative aimed at reshaping Malta's urban spaces into safer, more sustainable, and pedestrian-friendly environments. At the forefront of this project is our founder and director, Antoine Zammit, leading this project with Infrastructure Malta seeking to contribute to creating public spaces that prioritise people over vehicles. Our focus is on rethinking street design with improved walkways, safer crossings, green infrastructure, and traffic calming measures. This initiative builds on the success of Studjurban’s Slow Streets project, emphasising community well-being and environmental responsibility. We invite Local Councils and NGOs to collaborate and submit proposals to transform our urban landscapes. Together, we can make our towns more liveable and inclusive for all. #UrbanDesign #Sustainability #PedestrianSafety #GreenInfrastructure #CommunityEngagement

Architecture and Planning
An award-winning architectural and urban design consultancy specialising in spatial planning & urban design.
About us
studjurban is an award-winning, energetic architectural and urban design boutique consultancy that delves deep into what makes a place tick. Established in 2012 with the prime intention of championing high quality urban and architectural design in Malta, studjurban strives to achieve this in practice through an iterative philosophy, linking policy, research and collaboration to design and subsequently increasing awareness of place. For this reason studjurban is more than a design team – it grows organically, bringing together design professionals, policy-makers, communities and researchers. Its starting point is sound knowledge, which informs a collaborative approach to spatial planning and design. Through this inclusive approach, studjurban bridges the ‘theory-practice’ gap characteristic of conventional planning, adding value to both process and product.

Marking 10 years since our founder and director, Perit Antoine Zammit's pivotal contribution to the Architects' Council of Europe (ACE-CAE), we celebrate a decade of commitment to sustainable architecture. This document, embraced by all European architecture organisations, highlights the unique role architects play in energy-efficient building design and urban regeneration. As we face ongoing environmental challenges, the principles of responsible architecture are more important than ever. Let's continue to lead by example. #sustainablearchitecture #urbanregeneration #responsibledesign

Our dependence on cars is undeniable, but the cost is high: rising temperatures, mounting pressures, and the loss of tranquillity in our town and village cores. Our studio’s work on Mosta's square project has sparked a conversation about reclaiming urban spaces for the community. The Slow Streets Project, in collaboration with the Local Councils' Association Malta is more than traffic management; it’s a vision for a sustainable, vibrant future where pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers can coexist. It’s time to rethink our approach to mobility and return our public spaces to the people. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dj5_Nvmg #urbanplanning #sustainablemobility #slowstreets #malta

Our founder and director, Perit Antoine Zammit's take during his debate earlier today on Malta's State of the Nation on improved strategic long-term planning tailored to local needs is essential. Current infrastructural and urban planning issues persist, especially in the construction industry, where policies are often misconceived as entitlements. Building policies should be reassessed for individual zones to ensure proper development. Additionally, we must consider mass transit opportunities to address infrastructural challenges and promote sustainable urban growth. Our founder and director, Perit Antoine Zammit, clarifies that the DC15 policy document, often misinterpreted to support intense development, was meant to prioritise context and sustainable urban design. He urges planners to consider streetscapes rather than maximise building heights indiscriminately. Read the full article: https://bit.ly/3VHbpb0 #studjurban #DC15 #policy #urbandesign #malta

The lack of political will is a recurring theme that echoed in our founder and director, Perit Antoine Zammit's conversation on Jon Mallia's podcast. We also discussed local plans, mobility, the value of the streetscape, the protection of four village cores, and how densification can make economic sense.
