I am truly thankful to be recognized alongside such remarkable professionals. 🙏✨ #Gratitude #Recognition #Professionals #Networking #Thankful #BlackGeographyDay
🌍✨ On this Black Geography Day, let's honor the enduring legacy and contemporary achievements of Black geo professionals who have transformed the fields of geography and GIS. Today also marks the birthday of Dr. Gladys West, whose pioneering work in satellite geodesy laid the foundation for GPS technology. We pay tribute to other influential figures who have shaped the course of history. Visionaries like Robert Bullard, Paulette Brown-Hinds, PhD, and Dawn Wright, PhD continue to champion environmental advocacy and scientific exploration. Leaders such as Dominique Duval-Diop, PhD, Dr. Justin Dunnavant, Ph.D., and Véronique Couttee-Jenkins leverage geospatial technology to drive meaningful social change and promote equity. We also acknowledge the historical pioneers who laid the groundwork for today’s advancements. Solomon G. Brown, Matthew Henson, Dr. Mack Gipson Jr, and June Bacon-Bercey, paved the way for future generations in STEM. Contemporary leaders, including Dr. Tiara Moore, Talea Mayo, Dr. @Demetrice Jordan, and Raynah Kamau, continue to push the boundaries of geospatial science, carrying forward the legacies of those who came before. As we celebrate, don’t miss a special episode of the NorthStar Gaze Podcast, where we honor Dr. Gladys West’s life and legacy as shared by her daughter, Carolyn Oglesby, Ph.D. Tune in to reflect on these remarkable contributions and amplify the voices that have shaped and continue to shape our world. 🎧 Listen here: NorthStar Gaze Podcast: https://lnkd.in/grXpRfp3 WHO WILL YOU CELEBRATE TODAY? #BlackGeographyDay #NorthStarGaze #DrGladysWest #GIS #Geography #HiddenFigures #Trailblazers #BlackSTEM #EnvironmentalJustice #STEMPioneers Music Credits: @LabdiOfficial

We are excited to share that our Founder, Véronique Couttee-Jenkins, was a distinguished speaker at the 2024 New Zealand Esri User Conference, hosted by Eagle Technology from September 23rd to 25th. As a passionate advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion, Véronique delivered a powerful session on advancing dialogue around identity and feminist perspectives in geospatial storytelling. Her insightful presentation resonated deeply with leaders, innovators, and changemakers, underscoring the need to create brave spaces for transformative conversations. Participants were invited to reflect on two questions: Are there aspects of your identity you feel you downplay or keep hidden in the workplace? What does Feminist Reality look like within the context of Geospatial Storytelling? Their responses offered profound insights, contributing to a collective process of co-creating and uncovering feminist realities. Here’s a summary of their key reflections: Aspects of Identity Downplayed at Work 💔 Relationship status downplayed. 😟 Anxiety and mental health hidden. 🌈 Sexual orientation is often concealed. 🧠 Experience and knowledge understated. 🏠 Family trauma and background. Defining a Feminist Reality in Geospatial Storytelling 💼 Equitable pay for all. 🌐 Accessible tech for everyone. 🗣️ Awareness of bias. 🔄 Ongoing challenge and change. 👩👩👧👧 Highlighting historically marginalized group values. Credit to Association for Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) for the wonderful toolkit: Feminist Realities: Our Power in Action | An Exploratory Toolkit. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g5mSW-HX Thank you to Charlotte Dawson and Catherine O'Shaughnessy for inviting Véronique to share her journey and engage in this critical discussion. #GET #GeospatialEquityTech #ATF #AfriTechFellowship #GIS #EquityInTech #DiversityMatters #Inclusion #FeministGeographies #GeospatialLeadership #WomenInGIS #BraveSpaces #Storytelling #TechForGood #NZEUC
