Early Hours can mean a few different things: Are you winding down after being up all night, or are you just rising to meet the sun? For Detroit’s Huey Mnemonic, who helms this iteration of the mix series, it’s the latter. “This is definitely a set for starting your day,” he tells Apple Music. “There’s selections for waking up, being in the moment, movement, neural stimulation, and hope for the future.” The techno producer says he chose tracks that he’d want to hear if he was driving, early in the morning, on the Motor City’s I-75. Galcher Lustwerk’s “Left in the Dark” is one of his favorites. “There’s a warmth provided by the pad, but there’s also notes of concern and reflection,” he says. “I spend most of my time on long drives thinking, and it’s a great backdrop to those moments.” He says the key to building a mix like this is to be intentional with the mood he sets: “Rejuvenated, aware, and stimulated are words that come to mind.”
