The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) was founded in 1982 as the governing body of football in the Republic of Maldives. The association is responsible for all regulatory aspects of the sport in the Maldives. FAM became a member of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in 1986.
