About us

Maldives Space Research Organisation (MSRO) is the first space organisation dedicated to the research and development of the space sector in the Maldives. We are a non-governmental organisation whose main purpose is to use space to help fight climate change through climate resilience and adaptation, to diversify and develop the economy of Maldives, and to inspire and educate the youth and island communities through science and technology. Some of the challenges MSRO aims to tackle and solve through Earth observation and space applications are; - Coastal erosion and land subsidence - Land use policy - Ecosystem health and biodiversity - Maritime safety - Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing - Drug trafficking - Marine pollution - Groundwater contamination - Seabed mapping - Disaster response MSRO also seeks to take advantage of the opportunities space can offer; - Climate and marine research - Astronomy - Space science - Spaceport for unique equatorial orbit applications - Data services - Ground station platform for LEO, lunar, and cis-lunar orbits - Space tourism - Carbon sequestration services These focus areas are not exhaustive. In consultation with the government, non-governmental organisations, educational and commercial entities, civil society, and other emerging space states, MSRO is working to forge equitable partnerships in the Maldives and among the wider international community to deliver an integrated strategy for targeted and collaborative capacity development. The benefits of space should be shared and accessed by all. In this era of climate crisis, work with us in hope to drive inclusive, inspiring, and sustainable development through space, together.
