Headline - At The Postcard Hotel, we just carved out a 74 crores Employee stock option plan for our team and they won us 9 awards at The World Travel Awards in Manila, the most for any hotel company in India. I have attended so many talks on people retention, why people in hospitality work so hard but are not paid as much, but no solutions. Get this straight, if you have the opportunity to become an Assistant Manager in your company and you hold no equity options, you don't matter, actually never mattered. For long, hotel employees have been the most dispensable people in the world and not in India alone, remember? what happened in Covid, so many jobs were lost and so many of them, at least 25%, would never come back to hotels because they were not treated right. This year there were more seats in hotel management colleges than applications, the talent pool is not shrinking but nearly dead, most of the colleges are re-purposing into skill training centres as batch sizes have less than halved. Even colleges which have done well to attract good talent, don't have that talent wanting to join hotels, 80% students are opting out of hotel selection interviews. The trauma from the first training experience at the hotel makes them give up on hospitality coupled with a paltry stipend and long working hours. Attraction and retention of good people needs to be a long term strategy. Today is a significant milestone, we have carved out a Rs 74 crores Employee stock option plan. We believe in 6 years, to have been voted as the World's Best Boutique Hotel Brand at the World Travel Awards and with a chain rating of 9.6 on Booking.com (amongst the highest in the world), we need to attract and retain the best talent. So let us make them owners in the company they work for. We have done this earlier at EazyDiner and our attrition rates for people who have worked for more than 2 years at EazyDiner have dropped to 3%. Meanwhile, at The Postcard Hotel, there is so much to celebrate with our people and thank our guests who made this journey possible. With 10 exceptional, newly build hotels opening in the next 14 months, we are just starting.
