I recently had a call with Brian Smith, the founder of Strategy Ladders, and he told me, "Our team at Strategy Ladders is really good at asking great questions." So naturally, I followed up with, "Okay. How about you ask us a really good question right now?" My co-founder, Zach, and I were on the call, and Brian hit us with this: "Who do you need to become in order for your business to achieve its goals?" This question is powerful because it shifts the focus from external factors to the internal growth that's necessary for success. It emphasizes that the root driver of a business's ability to achieve its goals is who you need to become as a founder or entrepreneur. Zach and I found a lot of value in reflecting on and answering this question. It's a question that I think every founder or entrepreneur should take the time to consider. 6 months into 2024. £105K total revenue. Here’s how it’s going so far 👇 📆 January Revenue: £12.3K Something wasn’t right. I’d been ghostwriting on LinkedIn for a while. Stuck around £10k/mo. Getting a bit bored. Feeling a ton of resistance to my work. I met Camilia. She started teaching me about ‘inner work’. Realised I needed to do a lot of it. 📆 February Revenue: £15.7K Decided to find myself in Vietnam (I’m playing, just felt like a trip). Had a great month. Sun, pool, new people every day. I worked less total hours. But weirdly earned more. My first sign that more hours and brute force was not the way to grow. Stayed curious. Kept asking the world what the next step would be from here. 📆 March Revenue: £10.9K Slowed down with sales. Instead used the calls to ask questions and realised - coaching is the way forwards. I enjoy teaching. Clients get better results. Everyone wins. So I let a couple of clients go. S Brian Smith 🪜 reached out for me to join the Strategy Ladders community. Said yes. Got introduced to Josh. Built a roadmap to switch to a coaching biz (and grow it). 📆 April Revenue: £10.1K Lowest revenue in over a year. A little scary. But feeling so much more aligned. Purposeful. Externally the business was doing ‘worse’. Internally I felt much better. Started putting out feelers for the coaching - learning how to pitch it, testing price points. Got the first few clients in. 📆 May Revenue: £24.2K Went all in. Made a crazy amount of sales. Record month. 60+ enquiries. Went through the roof. My work with Camilia gave me the capacity to SEE this path. My work with Josh gave me to tools to EXECUTE it. Made more this month that I did in a whole year in my corporate job. Mad ting. 📆 June Revenue: £24K More of the same, with refinement. Got clearer on who my ideal client is. Hired Charlie so we can take on more clients. Transitioned Gabrielle from VA → SDR. Hired Joselle as a right hand. Officially gone from freelancer, to (small) business owner. Happy with progress, hours are a little tough. Long days. Working on that. 📆 Plans for the rest of 2024 - Break ~£30k/mo. - Get Charlie to full capacity and break ~£50k/mo. - Hire a 2nd coach. Half the amount of coaching in my diary - Do it all working ~6 hours a day I started my first business flipping 2nd hand clothes 5 years ago. I made less than £1000 profit for the first 18 months. This shit took ages. Awesome things usually do 👍
