Chick quality and livability is largely impacted by hatchery conditions. In a study done by The University of Georgia, hens were fed Termin-8-treated feed or a control diet from 25 -60 weeks of age. The impact of the feed treatment was assessed through hen performance, the microbial load of feed and eggshells, chick quality and livability. A recent study by Iowa State University showed an ASF outbreak would result in a $79.5 billion impact on the pork and beef industries. It would impact 60,000 industry workers with job loss. Yesterday, Dr. Francisco Domingues teamed up with SHS International to discuss feed biosecurity strategies post-ASF outbreak. A recent study simulated the shipping of feed ingredients from Eastern Europe to the US, and scientists proved ASFV survived in feed ingredients for at least 30 days. Other researchers have reported a half-life of the virus in soya-based products ranging between 9.6 and 12.4 days.
