Suspended String Transport Technology, the creation of Dr. Anatoli Unitsky, is a state-of-the-art string rail system that presents a transformative solution to the transportation challenges facing the developing world. The lightweight infrastructure significantly reduces construction costs, making it a feasible alternative for large-scale public transit projects. Supporting the local startup ecosystem with our 2nd consecutive year contribution to the PJ Startup Festival 2024. This year, our Chief Commercial Officer, Vicks Kanagasingam participated in an insightful panel discussion titled "What the Plug? – The Next Evolution of Electric Vehicles (EV) and Sustainable Mobility," alongside YB Howard Lee, Malaysian Member of Parliament for Ipoh Timur; Dr. Daniel Bien, Senior Vice President at NanoMalaysia Berhad, and moderated by Rina Neoh, Partner & Co-Founder of Ficus Capital. During the discussion, Vicks addressed several critical challenges that must be overcome for a successful transition to EVs: Ecosystem and Infrastructure: The EV landscape currently lacks cohesion, with multiple apps for charging and uncertainty around where to charge. A unified and accessible infrastructure is essential to support widespread adoption. Energy Costs: The high cost of electricity is a significant barrier. Reducing energy prices is vital to making electric vehicles a more attractive option for consumers. Data Security: EVs are highly connected, raising concerns about data protection. Clear regulations, like a robust data protection act, are needed to ensure data is handled appropriately and securely. Beyond these challenges, Vicks emphasized that a shift in mindset is equally important to treat mobility as a great force multiplier for economic growth and well-being of a nation. This perspective captures the essence of Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) as a transformative force for developing nations, enabling greater access, inclusivity, and sustainable urban growth. As the shift toward electric vehicles and innovative mobility solutions accelerates, the focus must remain on leveraging these advancements to foster economic development and improving the quality of life. It was a real honour for our team to host all Nippon Koei affiliated Southeast Asian companies in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this month for a live demo of our groundbreaking Demand-Responsive Transit (DRT) service. This was on the sidelines of the inaugural Innovation Revolution Showcase 2024 for the parent ID&E group, brilliantly organised by NIPPON KOEI MOBILITY SDN BHD. We are absolutely proud of the vision of making Malaysia a hub for digital innovation for transport by the oldest independent consulting firm in Japan, under the local leadership of Aniket Mukhopadhyay FIRSE, SMIEEE, MIET.
