#Copper prices fell on the impact of China's measures on refined copper and aluminum imports. Copper prices fell on Monday, mainly due to the stabilization of the US dollar against most major currencies and the previous measures taken by China on refined copper and aluminum imports. China's Ministry of Environmental Protection announced new rules to allow more copper and refined aluminum imports to improve supply and industrial competitiveness. As the world's largest metals consumer and producer, China is seeking to use refined metals to reduce industrial carbon emissions. The market is also looking forward to possible government stimulus measures to promote the construction industry and many other industries that rely on industrial metals such as copper. Key data: As of 16:49 GMT, the US dollar index rose 0.1% to 104.9, with an intraday high of 105.03 and a low of 104.8. As of 16:43 GMT, copper September futures fell 0.4% to $4.63 per pound. #recycling #metals #conference #India #scrap #industry #summit

#copper War in Ukraine leads to surge in demand for copper Russia's war on Ukraine is increasing demand for copper. On Monday, a series of Russian missiles struck targets in cities across Ukraine, including a children's hospital in Kiev, killing at least 22 people and injuring 68. The war consumes a lot of copper. Most ammunition uses copper in some way, with bullet casings made of brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. NATO 155 millimeter (mm) shells contain 0.5 kilograms of copper. According to the European Defense Agency (EDA), the Ukrainian army fires up to 7,000 shells per day. According to the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), a British defense think tank, the Russian equivalent is a 152-mm shell. According to consulting firm Bain & Company, Russia produces 4.5 million artillery shells per year, with a 150 percent increase in production over the past 12 months. According to Bloomberg estimates, prior to the war in Ukraine, the United States produced an average of 14,400 shells per month. However, DefenceOne, a publication specializing in the defence industry, said the country plans to increase production to 100,000 shells per month by the end of 2025. The industry's military demand for copper has been the focus of attention in recent years. According to mining giant Robert Friedland, military demand in China is very high despite the country's weak real estate market. "Europe is rearming; Japan is rearming. The U.S. military is worried about a shortage of 155-millimeter howitzer shells. When all the guns are going off, "if someone is pointing a gun at you, you need that cop to shoot back." #recycling #metals #conference #India #scrap #industry #summit

#Day2 Global Renewable Metal Industry Chain Summit [𝗞𝗘𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵] - Highlight of 𝐀 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠–𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢-𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 brought by Farid Ahmed, VP Global Strategy & Business Development from ACE Green Recycling, Inc. 💡 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 & 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥: 90% is used in battery manufacturing. In addition to automotive uses, lead batteries will play a key role in providing energy storage systems for the energy transition, because primary lead extracted from mining will not see real growth in the next decade, even though total demand for lead will grow by an average of 1% per year. This is partly because no additional primary lead is needed. Secondary supply, that is, metal from recycling, can meet this processing demand through its own organic growth, but it does mean that we must increase lead recycling capacity to match the rate of scrap. Battery recycling, although it is much more applicable to lithium-ion than lead. The 2022 US Inflation Reduction Act IRA promotes higher levels of Batch 3 components and the minerals used to make them from North America. And primary metal supply is difficult to meet this demand, so recycling will be an important supplement to this supply. So this means that recycling also needs to be localized. It can't all be done abroad and shipped to the United States. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬: Over-reliance on foreign countries. The United States imports a large amount of lead each year, almost a third of its total demand; the gap between supply and demand has widened. The United States has lost a huge amount of smelting capacity. The shortfall is expected to average more than 500,000 tons per year through 2040, with an average annual growth of 1% during that period; tighter regulations limiting organic growth. Every year, it becomes harder to make lead. The bar is getting higher. #recycling #metals #conference #India #scrap #industry #summit

#Copper China's copper premium reaches above zero A key measure of Chinese copper demand returned to positive territory for the first time in nearly two months as users stepped up purchases. Premiums for imported refined copper rose to $3 a tonne on Friday, according to data released by the Shanghai Metal Market. Copper in Shanghai's duty-free bonded zone has been selling at a discount to London Metal Exchange prices since May, driven by weak underlying demand and buyers' reluctance to pay higher prices for copper. However, copper prices have hit record highs in recent months, driven by speculative funds, as the market's focus shifted back to weakness in China, the biggest copper consumer. But this rally has lost momentum. In recent weeks, the market has shown the first signs that it is strengthening, with the Yangshan premium turning positive again and Chinese copper stocks falling last month after surging in May. However, it remains doubtful whether the rise in purchases is simply the result of delayed buying or a genuine improvement in underlying demand. The latest data from the Shanghai Futures Exchange showed that copper stocks rose slightly again over the past week, which is a negative sign for the market. Copper prices rose 1 % to $9,976.50 a ton on the London Metal Exchange as of 2:14 p.m. The price of zinc rose by 1 % to $9,976.50 a ton on the London Metal Exchange. Other metal prices also strengthened, with zinc and tin both on track for their fourth consecutive week of increases. On Friday, U.S. economic data showed that job and wage growth slowed in June, reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve will begin cutting interest rates in the coming months. #recycling #metals #conference #India #scrap #industry #summit #copper #scraps

#copper Congo sells copper from joint ventures for the first time The Democratic Republic of Congo's state-owned mining company has for the first time begun selling its copper stake in a joint venture project, as the country seeks to tighten its grip on the key metal for the energy transition. Gecamines S.A. holds minority stakes in large mines operated by companies such as China's Luoyang Molybdenum Group and Glencore. So far, the joint venture itself has sold all of its products. But it has been revealed that the state-owned company is selling its share - totaling hundreds of thousands of tons per year - more aggressively. In addition, Gecamines will sell copper from Luoyang Molybdenum's Tenke Fungurume mega-mine, in which the company holds a 20% interest. The state-owned miner is also evaluating bids, including those from Glencore, Trafigura and Mercuria Energy Group Holding SA, to buy 90,000 tons of copper from the project. Gecamines' action creates an opportunity for traders to bid for a large number of new contracts in a context of intense competition for copper deals. Congo recently became the world's second-largest copper producer, with exports nearly tripling since 2016. However, many expect global demand to outpace investment in new supply, driven by growth in electric vehicles, grid infrastructure and data centers. #recycling #metals #conference #India #scrap #industry #summit

#Day2 Global Renewable Metal Industry Chain Summit [𝗞𝗘𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵] - Highlight of Global Low-Carbon Aluminum Outlook brought by Inga Simonenko, Market Intelligence and Commercial Sustainability from UC RUSAL 💡 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 & 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: Over 90% of processing and final goods industries’ upstream GHG emissions comes from raw materials and Aluminium industry in its entirely represents ~2% of global GHG emissions. Analytic agencies define “low-carbon aluminium” having CF <4 t CO2 in regard to Scopes 1 & 2, however, there is still no uniform definition for low-carbon aluminium in regard to Cradle-to-Gate. Packaging, Consumer goods & Automotive segments turned out to be early adopters of aluminum. Solar PV is the fastest growing segment of aluminium demand. China is dominant in the solarphotovolitaic value chian. Today, China’s share in all solar panels’ manufacturing stages (such as polysilicon, ingots, wafers, cells and modules) exceeds 80%•The country is home to the world’s top-10 suppliers of solar PV manufacturing equipment. EV sales continue to grow at doubled digits, share of BEV slightly decreased, and aluminium makes up >30% of EV batteries content and significant part of batteries CF. At the same time, aluminium cans demand recovers, back to the long-term growth trajectory. Transport to remain the key driver of aluminium demand given energy transition background and the decarbonization of aluminium industry is ongoing, providing customers optionality and transparency. #recycling #metals #conference #Malaysia #scrap #industry #summit
