During a visit to Kuching for the upcoming R.I.S.E. training, Izlyn Ramli, CEO of Maybank Foundation, made a stop to Florence Remi's freshmart shop, where the pair exhange smiles and pleasantries. Florence, who is a R.I.S.E. graduate, did not let her walking impairment stop her from realising her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. The economic empowerment programme allowed Florence to hone her entrepreneurial knowledge such as people management, sales skills and marketing strategies. The single mother worked hard to improve her business, so much so, that today, she is able to make a living of a steady income. In 2019, Florence's successful entrepreneurial journey earned her a prestigious award, 'Anugerah Platinum UMK Contoh', proving that with determination, an individual can overcome any obstacles. #MaybankFoundation #EmpowerwithRISE

The R.I.S.E. training, which took place over the weekend in Lundu, Sarawak, brought together a diverse group of aspiring entrepreneurs. The atmosphere was buzzing with enthusiasm and anticipation as participants gathered to learn, share, and grow. The session, which saw the attendance of over 30 individuals from disabled and marginalized communities, along with a visit by Izlyn Ramli, CEO of Maybank Foundation, and Raymond Gabriel, Executive Director of People Systems Consultancy (PSC), is designed to equip them with essential business skills. Participants were exposed to a wide range of topics, such as business planning, marketing strategies, financial management, and confidence building. Happy Sustainable Gastronomy Day! In conjunction with Sustainable Gastronomy Day, we would like to highlight how sustainable gastronomy can play a role in overall sustainable development within communities, particularly by promoting agricultural development ensuring food security, nutrition, and sustainable food practices. We are happy to support one such project by Persatuan Aktivis Sahabat Alam (KUASA) which works closely with Orang Asli communities in Perak & Kelantan, aiming to benefit 17 villages with over 5,000 households towards climate resilience and more sustainable agricultural practices. The aim to establish community farm systems will not only ensure food security, but will also contribute to their overall socio-economic wellbeing.
