Proud to share MessengerCo’s journey at the LeadWomen summit panel on empowering SMEs through diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). We had the opportunity to highlight our #culture and #innovation, driven by the strength of our diverse team. Our success stems from the collective efforts of a team representing Kadazan, Chinese, Malay, Indian races, and various nationalities, including UNHCR refugees and B40 moms. Together, we’ve shipped over 150,000 gifts and merchandise to 17 countries. Key takeaways from the panel: 1. Diversity attracts backing. Impact investors and banks are offering incentives for inclusive, diverse teams. We heard from Maybank Foundation CEO Izlyn Ramli on how banks play a key role in helping SMEs through financing, and Bintang Capital Partners COO Ee Rong Song shared insights on what impact investors look for in startups. 2. Start small. No matter your stage, focus on what you can control, and growth will follow. Impact-driven businesses aren’t just for social enterprises. SMEs and startups can thrive with this approach. MessengerCo proves that it’s not just about cost, but about being revenue-driven. Liza Liew from LeadWomen also emphasized how taking small actions consistently is key to bringing everyone on board with #DEI. 3. Diversity drives innovation. It’s more than just a value,at MessengerCo, it’s a proven driver of both top-line and bottom-line growth. Diversity isn’t just the right thing, it’s about having a team with diverse perspectives, bringing the best ideas and a global outlook to problem-solving. Izlyn Ramli’s words still resonate with me, by supporting underserved women, she’s seen firsthand how it brings ROI to Maybank because they’re hungry to succeed. From my POV, a harder start creates privilege. When you have nothing to lose, no one is as hungry as you to make it happen.
