Dear MOGSC Members, Yesterday, The Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC) was honored to participate in the 2nd edition of the OGSE Partners Day, organized by PETRONAS. This event featured a series of insightful sessions, including engaging panel discussions and presentations that explored key challenges and emerging opportunities within the oil, gas, and energy services sector. The exhibition area was bustling with activity, showcasing the latest products and innovative solutions from a wide range of industry players. We were proud to have our President, Ts. Syed Saggaf Syed Ahmad, deliver a presentation titled "OGSE: 50 Years of Supporting PETRONAS." He eloquently described the enduring partnership between MOGSC and PETRONAS, likening it to the Malay proverb "Bagai Aur dengan Tebing," which symbolizes mutual support and cooperation. Additionally, Ts. Anwarudin Saidu Mohamed represented MOGSC as a panelist in a discussion on "Navigating Talent Challenges Through Joint Industry Efforts," where he addressed the pressing talent issues facing our sector and emphasized the importance of collaborative solutions. We were also privileged to have Faiz Latip, one of our EXCO members, share insights on the Industrial Skills Framework (IndSF) HRD Corp - Human Resource Development Corporation, a key tool in defining and developing industry-relevant skills. Furthermore, Ir. Ts. Hisham Yahaya, P.Eng, P.Tech, GPM-rca provided an overview of the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK), offering attendees a deeper understanding of the skills framework and competencies that are already available, yet often underutilized or misunderstood by many within the industry. A notable highlight was the "Tender Clinic," which provided participants with an in-depth review of last year's OGSE Partners Day results, focusing on licensing, tendering, post-mortems, dos and don'ts, best practices, and lessons learned. This session, titled "How to Compete Effectively in the Market," equipped attendees with valuable knowledge to strengthen their competitive edge and foster collaboration with PETRONAS and other key stakeholders. Overall, OGSE Partners Day 2024 served as a strategic platform for fostering collaboration, networking, and knowledge-sharing among industry players, reaffirming our shared commitment to advancing the oil, gas, and energy services ecosystem in Malaysia. It was an honour for me and The Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC) to be invited to give this special address during OGSE Partners Day 2024. My speech highlights the importance of of OGSE players alongside the successes of Petronas, the evolution of OGSE players, crucial role of Vendor Development Program, energy transition agenda, and the importance of solidarity among OGSE players. Subsequently, I was also one of the panelists in n a session titled “Greening Value Chain through PETRONAS Supplier Support Program (PSSP)”. I had urged OGSE players to subsribe to this program as it provides a one stop solution for ESG related matters and most importantly, the cost is borne by Petronas. “We need to go back to fundamentals of why this ESG is important. We want to ensure that we leave a better world for our future generations” - Syed Saggaf I thought I delivered one of my better speech.. 😁

This year marks my 21st year in the O&G industry, coinciding with The Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC) 21st anniversary. I began in this field and remain committed in fulfilling my duties to shareholders, staff, the industry, and the community, while serving the nation through various roles and continue to contribute in making O&G as the mainstream of nation building. My journey started from an underprivileged background, where I carried my schoolbooks in a plastic bag and traded Taugeh packing hours for tuition hours to learn and educate myself. It was knowledge and skills that i have gotten through this industry that enabled me to uplift myself and people around me. My journey shaped my belief in the power of knowledge and skills. Hence my advocacy for providing opportunities for everyone to learn, train, and excel. Alhamdulillah, fortunate to have an excellent platform like OGSE Partners Day 2.0 to discuss the topic close to my heart, talent development..., a key success factor in achieving 50 yrs of PETRONAS-OGSE milestone and 100 years of nation-building. O&G workforce significantly impacts the nation's GDP and government revenue, contributing 20% of GDP (MYR 320B) with just 160,000 workers out of the nation's total of 16 million workers, while the energy sector (excl O&G) produces 8% GDP with 3.84 million workers. This equivates MYR 2 million/worker by O&G as compared to national average of MYR 100K. This is a staggering impact to the nation's economy. Also depict the importance of sustainable and healthy pipeline of workforce/talents to our industry. In fact, it should be a national agenda. However, the industry faces challenges in attracting and retaining competent talents: *Great Crew Change*: The gap left by the recession from 2015 to 2019 has created a generational void, with the average age in O&G workforce now 47 years. We must break the cycle of employment mirroring industry downturns. *Competition from the Gig Economy*: The O&G industry struggles to match the starting wages of the gig economy, making it hard to attract young talent, especially through TVET. We need to shift our focus from cost-cutting to productivity and fair compensation. *Brain Drain*: Skilled workers are drawn to higher-paying opportunities abroad, particularly across the border in Johor which offers 300%. We must find ways to retain and fairly compensate highly trained Malaysians. *TVET & STEM Crisis*: The industry's image needs a rebrand to attract youth. We must turn 3D (Dirty, Difficult, Dangerous) jobs into 3S (Sexy, Sustainable, Satisfying) careers and capitalize on the opportunity to bring SPM leavers into the TVET education ladder. We shall not see the changes we need, unless we change our attitude towards the problem. Be the change you want to see! MOGSC will orchestrate the efforts via Industry Talent Framework (InTAF) along with PETRONAS & Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC) to address the issues above.

Control Union Malaysia, represented by Ebnu Md Amin, was invited by The Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC) to participate in discussions about their 2024 plans, which include various activities and their ESG journey. MOGSC is preparing to launch their own Sustainability Report. MOGSC also intends to organize an ESG Day, enhance membership benefits with exclusive content for paid members, and hold engagement sessions with their members, 70% of whom are SMEs.
