The spinneret, often a fine metal needle or nozzle, extrudes a charged polymer solution or melt, forming a Taylor cone at the tip. A high-voltage power supply generates an electric field, stretching the solution into a fine jet. The collector, typically a grounded or oppositely charged target like a rotating drum or static plate, collects the nanofibers drawn towards it by electrostatic forces. These systems vary in size and configuration, from laboratory-scale setups to industrial-scale systems, offering precision and control for tailored nanofiber production.
