We are honored to receive this prestigious award alongside Mr Evan Cheah, the Vice-President of Sunway Group, Mr Lang; and Mr Ricky, CEO & GM of Sunway Multicare Pharmacy, our esteemed partner in this groundbreaking initiative. We are deeply grateful to Ministry Of Health, Malaysia (KKM), YB Datuk Seri Haji Dr. Dzulkefly, YBhg Datuk Dr. Radzi, & YBrs Dr Ami for their proactive support of Precision Diagnostics (PD) in organizing the '1st Malaysia Pharmacogenomic Summit (2024),' alongside with PMedS & CMA, born from the PD & NUS collaboration under the "Pharmacogenomic Implementation: Precision Medicine Initiative" advancing since May 2023. PD & NUS firmly advocate that pharmacogenomics (PGx) testing be clinically validated and accredited before patient-actionable treatment. A PGx report must be accredited by a regulatory body for gene-drug evidence (NOT just insights or ISO) & adhere to global guidelines (e.g., FDA, CPIC, DPWG, NCCN). Based on accredited submission, MBR awarded PD the "First Clinical Recommended Genome-Wide Pharmacogenomics (2023)," affirming our pioneering commitment to clinical validity & accreditation for real-world PGx implementation. However, it is disheartening to witness PGx reports in the market where NO evidence of drug-gene interactions or regulatory standards is provided. This practice is against the Best Practices set by the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP). PGx report with no drug-gene info can be LIFE-ENDANGERING rather than life-saving. ________________________________________ My journey into PGx was deeply personal. I lost my mom in her 30s from colon cancer, soon after chemotherapy. This profound loss ignited my quest to understand whether it was cancer progression or a preventable drug reaction, leading to Dual PhD graduate in Pharmacy and Molecular Medicine, where I was assigned to teach PGx under PBL in University of Nottingham (2015). In 2019, my stepmom—the woman who lovingly raised me—was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, driving me to accelerate clinical accredited PGx test to ensure she received the most effective & least harmful treatment. By God’s blessing and the power of precision medicine & PGx, she lived to witness a moment I will forever cherish—both my 12& 13-year-old sons embarking on Uni's Engineering studies recently. This achievement is not about breaking records—it's about BREAKING BARRIERS to personalized medicine. It's about giving patients a Fighting Chance.
