PROTON SALES SURPASS THE 100,000-MARK SIX YEARS IN A ROW In August, PROTON accumulated 101,489 units in sales year-to-date, marking the sixth year of it has exceeded the 100,000-mark. The national carmaker has registered sales of 12,690 units in August, fuelled by strong sales numbers for the Proton X50 and export sales volume doubling compared to July. Total industry volume (TIV) for the Malaysian automotive market is estimated to have grown by 1.3% month-on-month to approximately 72,678 units in August while YTD figure is estimated to be at 534,766 units, an increase of 6.2% over 2023. The updated Proton X50 continues to attract car buyers as 2,440 units were delivered in August, the third time volume has breached the 2,000 threshold in 2024. Meanwhile, sales of the Proton Saga came in at 6,211 units in August leading to YTD sales of 48,904 units, an uptick of 6.7% over 2023. Following a slow month in July, export sales of Proton models are steadily picking up pace with Brunei saw its highest ever monthly sales performance of 120 units sold to customers there. PROTON’S FIRST EV TO MAKE PUBLIC DEBUT AT NATIONAL DAY PARADE TOMORROW PROTON e.MAS 7 will be making its first public appearance on the upcoming national day parade tomorrow! PROTON’s first EV model was previewed to the media earlier this month and to kick-off a journey that will culminate in its market launch at the end of the year, it will appear with a special camouflage motif representing the colours of the Jalur Gemilang. The National Day parade is a great opportunity for the company to showcase the progress made over the last decades and the 25-car lineup will run through the range from the original Proton Saga up to the 2025 Proton X70 launched just two weeks ago. PROTON OFFICIALLY ROLLS OUT NEW 2025 PROTON X70 The 2025 PROTON X70 was officially unveiled last week at the Putrajaya Marriott Hotel with comprehensive updates featuring revised exterior styling, new interior equipment and upgraded ADAS level 2 safety technology. For the first time on a Proton model, it will be equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Notably, the PROTON X70 has sold over 100,000 units since its debut five years ago while its global counterpart, the Geely Boyue has sold 1.8 million units in 49 countries worldwide. The most noticeable new feature is a new larger front grille and a new front bumper and front fenders that add muscle and aggression. Powering the latest model is a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injection engine that is assembled by PROTON in its engine plant in Tanjong Malim. PROTON SAGA SETS NEW SALES RECORD IN A DECADE Last month, the Proton Saga posted the best single-month achievement since October 2013 with an extraordinary 7,855 units in sales. This has resulted in year-to-date (YTD) sales of 42,693 units, which is 8.8% higher than the last corresponding period. In fact, sales of Proton Saga have already surpassed the 2 million mark this year, solidifying its status as the most popular model from a Malaysian automotive brand. Although almost four decades have passed since its first production, the Saga retains its position as the mainstay of PROTON’s range of offerings due to its reliability and affordability. While the model continues to meet market demand, PROTON is working closely with partner Geely to explore model enhancement activities from the existing platform. PROTON LAUNCHES NEW REGIONAL PARTS CENTRE IN SABAH TO MEET GROWING DEMAND Last week, national carmaker PROTON announced the expansion and launch of a new regional parts centre (RPC) at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to meet the growing demand in East Malaysia. This has helped to reduce lead for spare parts time by 30% on the back of increased output capacity from PROTON Parts Centre Sdn Bhd (PPCSB) in West Malaysia as well as parts procured via direct shipment from overseas.   Boasting a built-up floor space of about 28,000 sq ft, the latest facility can receive up to six containers of parts on site simultaneously. It is currently processing on average of 26 containers per month to fully utilise its capability to store up to three months of stock. It also allows the allocation of 8,500 bins to store parts, up from 5,000 bins in the previous facilities. 2024 PROTON X50 RECAPTURES MARKET NUMBER 1 IN ITS SEGMENT Following its debut in June, the latest Proton X50 model is hogging the limelight with 2,585 units sold during its first full month of sales. To-date, July was its best performance in 2024, vaulting the model back to the head of its class and solidifying its status as Malaysia’s favourite compact SUV. It is noteworthy that nearly 120,000 units of the Proton X50 have been sold since its first launch in 2020, making it the fastest selling SUV in Malaysia. The model secured a 10.3% market share in the SUV segment from January to June 2024, outpacing other vehicles in the same market segment. After taking our customer feedback into consideration, PROTON has made various updates on the latest model, including improvements made to reducing noise, vibration and harshness levels, better infotainment system and upgraded 360-degree camera system. 2024 Proton X50 appeals equally to both male and female buyers. PROTON e.MAS UNVEILS NAME FOR MALAYSIA’S FIRST EV National carmaker PROTON has officially named the first model for e.MAS as e.MAS 7, signaling the start of a new era in the country’s automotive history and paving the way for the full launch later in the year. Meanwhile PROTON subsidiary PRO-NET, the exclusive distributor for e.MAS in Malaysia, has expanded its reach from 18 to a total of 29 outlets, out of which 25 are expected to be operational before the highly anticipated launch. Co-developed with Geely, the Proton e. MAS 7 is the first model to feature the advanced Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform, ensuring superior performance, handling and comfort. More than two hundred and forty PROTON engineers made hands-on contributions to the project, ensuring it caters to the needs of Malaysians as much as those from other countries. The soon-to-be launched EV has undergone rigorous testing, with 700,000 manhours and 10 million kilometres of testing performed to verify its durability and reliability. PROTON ‘S JULY SALES REBOUND TO ITS HIGHEST LEVEL SINCE SEPTEMBER 2022 National carmaker PROTON has made a solid start to the second half of the year. with 15,103 units sold in July, cementing its position in second place in the automotive sales rankings. Sales volume rebounded by 37.3% month-on-month, resulting in the highest closing figure since September 2022. The Proton Saga sold an impressive 7,855 units in July, which is the best achievement for the model since October 2013. As a result, YTD sales for the Saga stood at 42,693 units, which is 8.8% ahead of sales from 2023. The Proton Games 2024 concluded successfully on July 27 at the Sports Complex PROTON Tanjung Malim. The event saw over 3,000 participants, including staff and their families, enjoying a day filled with various activities, such as a cooking competition, health screenings, and a fun run. There were a total of eight teams that took part in the Proton Games, consisting of Team Persona, R3, S70, Saga, Iriz, X50, X70 and X90, representing Proton's strategic partners, as well as the engineering, technical, and manufacturing departments. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Team S70, which is the team from manufacturing plant at Tanjong Malim, for emerging as the Overall Champion of the Proton Games 2024. Kudos to the organizing committee for their hard work in making this event a success. We also want to thank all participants for their involvement and congratulate all the winners.
