  • Saturday Tee-Off On August 18, 2024, Sabah Energy Corporation (SEC) hosted a friendly golf match at the Sutera Harbour Golf Club with our customer from Korea, SK Nexilis Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. The company has invested RM2.3 billion in its copper foil manufacturing plant in Sabah, where SEC supplies the natural gas essential for their operations. The SEC team was led by Chief Executive Officer Datuk Adzmir Abd Rahman, while SK Nexilis was represented by Mr. Kim Jasun, the Chief Production Officer. The event offered both teams an enjoyable opportunity to connect in a casual setting, fostering meaningful dialogue and mutual appreciation away from the typical office environment. This event is part of SEC’s Engagement Program, aimed at strengthening ties with our customers and stakeholders. SK Nexilis’ copper foil plant in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) is their first overseas production base, contributing approximately 15% of global copper foil production for electric vehicle batteries. As Sabah's main natural gas supplier, SEC is proud to support the growth of industries and economic development in Sabah, in line with the aspirations of the state government under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development plan. #SabahEnergyCorporation #SKNexilis

  • SESB Bowling Networking Tournament Over the weekend, SEC has participated in and won 2nd place at the Bowling Networking Tournament invitation, organized by SESB. This tournament also featured other SESB strategic partners, including SOGIP and independent power producers (IPP) such as Ranhill Sabah Energy and Kimanis Power. The event took place at the Striker's Bowl, Sutera Harbour Resort. The Chief Executive Officer of SESB, Tuan Ir. Ts. As SEC fuels 86% of Sabah's electricity needs through our natural gas supply, we have been working very closely with the IPPs and SESB, in ensuring a stable and consistent power supply to SESB's grid. This collaboration is not just a recent effort but a long-standing partnership that has been crucial in maintaining Sabah's energy security. In conclusion, the event highlighted the importance of collaboration in the corporate sector, and the value that we bring to our partners, both on and off the field. • CEO Masterclass Sabah 2024 At the recent CEO Masterclass Sabah 2024 event, co-organized by SYBIL and MICCI Sabah, Datuk Adzmir Abd Rahman, the Chief Executive Officer of SEC, was invited to join a panel alongside other prominent industry leaders in Malaysia. During the discussion on “Redefining the Rules of the Game in a Changing Landscape,” Datuk Adzmir shared his corporate journey, perspectives, challenges, and insights, particularly in the energy sector. Reflecting on his career trajectory, Datuk Adzmir illustrated the essence of perseverance, climbing from an Assistant Mill Manager at Sawit Kinabalu in 1998 to his current role as SEC’s CEO in 2022. His journey is a testament to the importance of adaptability, a trait he emphasized as essential in today’s rapidly changing business environment. Key Takeaways Adaptability and Flexibility: Datuk Adzmir highlighted the critical need for businesses to adapt and be flexible in their models. He cited how a strategic adjustment in SEC’s business model significantly boosted profitability, underscoring that agility is key to staying competitive. This mirrors his perspective on human capital as a strategic asset, where selecting and nurturing the right team is pivotal for any organization's success. Technology as an Enabler: While many top executives have traditionally overlooked technology, Datuk Adzmir stressed that the paradigm has shifted. SEC leverages technology not just for operational efficiency but as a driver for innovation, safety, and agility. Notably, SEC’s digitalization efforts have ensured a 94% uptime in energy delivery, demonstrating how technology enhances service reliability. Innovative Solutions in Energy Delivery: SEC has been at the forefront of innovation, pioneering the adoption of CNG-VPS in 2013 to extend gas supply beyond KKIP and later scaling this solution to LNG-VPS in 2019, bringing gas to industries on Sabah’s East Coast. Additionally, SEC’s foray into renewable energy and feasibility studies on wind energy, despite geographical challenges, underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability and diversification. Human Capital as a Strategic Asset: Datuk Adzmir emphasized that the success of any organization lies in assembling and nurturing the right team, highlighting human capital as a cornerstone of SEC’s strategy. Datuk Adzmir concluded his discussion with a piece of wisdom that, while seemingly simple, carries profound implications: the importance of perseverance, commitment, discipline, resilience, and the ability to overcome challenges. “Always finish what you’ve started” Later in the evening, Tan Sri Dato Sri Vincent Tan, the founder and advisor of the Berjaya Corporation Berhad, a prominent Malaysian conglomerate delivers his Keynote Address to the audience. He also took the time to visit SEC booth set up outside the conference hall, acknowledging the company’s contributions to the energy sector. #SabahEnergyCorporation #CEOMasterclass
