Happy World Environment Day! 🌍🌳 1. In the first photo is Chin Wen, a budding conservationist and former Roots & Shoots volunteer. She envisions a future where environmental conservation becomes second nature to everyone. “For that to happen, it’s important that we have environmental education in schools to teach youth to care for our planet,” shared Chin Wen. Supported by Yayasan Hasanah, @rootsandshootsmy started in 2019 with only 36 youth volunteers and a handful of NGO partners. Now, it has expanded to provide 317 youths with a platform to volunteer with 51 NGOs of their choice. 🌳✨ 2. In the second photo is Talib Mat Razi, who patrols the Royal Belum Rainforest as part of @rimau_ngo ‘s long-term effort to revive the Malayan tiger population. Supported by Yayasan Hasanah and @mof_malaysia RIMAU employs indigenous communities from the Royal Belum area in Perak as forest patrollers to protect Malayan tigers and other species in the Central Forest Spine, reducing the number of poacher snares found in Royal Belum forest by 90% — igniting the possibility of a recovering number of tigers in the wild. This also provides sustainable employment for the indigenous community there, promoting a better future for the environment and the people who call the region home. 🐯🐅✨ Let’s come together to protect our planet towards a greener future.
