Technical Manager

Job Responsibilities:

  • Technical Competencies:
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the technical and operations team in executing manufacturing projects.
  • Ensure the implementation of best practices, quality standards, and efficient processes in manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing processes, improve productivity, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Quality Assurance.
  • Accountable for overall performance of the projects
  • Able to generate profitable contracts to the Rail, B&I business unit
  • Able to generate profitable contracts to the B&I Business Unit through resourcefulness and creative
  • Business Development (Technical Support):
  • Act as central role by providing technical support for departmental business development initiatives.
  • Responsibilities encompass active participation in client engagement, proposal development, and feasibility studies to contribute to the overall growth of the business.
  • Maintain a high level of technical expertise by staying informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements within the Rail, Building & Infrastructure sectors.
  • Leverage industry networks to identify and foster strategic partnerships, thereby uncovering potential business opportunities for the department.
  • Collaborate with the team in defining and implementing comprehensive business plans, budgets, and resource allocation strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Support the development and execution of effective marketing strategies to enhance the visibility and positioning of the Rail, Building & Infrastructure department.
  • Identify and pursue business opportunities within the Rail, Building & Infrastructure markets, with a specific focus on key sectors that align with strategic goals.
  • Take ownership of achieving sales targets as a key performance indicator (KPI), ensuring that these goals are in harmony with the technical objectives of the department.
  • Oversee tender activities from the technical engineering phase to pricing, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all tender documents.
  • Provide regular progress updates, emphasizing a collaborative approach in working with internal teams to achieve business objectives within the Rail, Building & Infrastructure department.
  • Project Management:
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of projects, ensuring they are delivered within budget, timeline, and quality expectations.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential issues.
  • Communicate project updates, milestones, and deliverables to stakeholders, ensuring alignment and customer satisfaction.
  • Obtain, protect and manage License-to-Operate (local and global accreditations) where applicable
  • Progressive reports activities and results to N+, weekly/monthly, quarterly
  • Update and improvise project management manuals, plan, quality procedures where applicable to suit project needs
  • Supervise all works performed by the B&I members, subcontractors, ensure technical quality and timely delivery of services
  • Team Leadership:
  • Achieve set objectives (technical, commercial and financial, including personal)
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, promoting teamwork, innovation, and professional development among team members.
  • Set clear goals, expectations, and performance metrics for the technical and operations team.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to team members, fostering their growth and career advancement.
  • Interview, select and recruit of B&I project staff, approve B&I project staff expenses, perform employee performance assessment.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related technical field. Advanced degree/ master/ PMP or professional registration with BEM is a plus.
  • Having a minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in engineering / technical roles within the sectors of Building and Infrastructure
  • Excellent understanding of the current market trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape in the manufacturing industry in Malaysia.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to align technical decisions with business objectives.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with excellent proficiency in spoken and written English/Malay. Proficiency in Mandarin would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and industry partners.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on collaboration, mentorship, and talent development.
  • Great personality that fosters positive working relationships and contributes to a healthy team dynamic.
  • Mandarin-speaking candidate is preferable as he/ she will be working with China-based client/ contractors.
