Friends of Small Steps,
Please join the Small Steps Board of Directors in welcoming Barbara Allen as the new Executive Director of Small Steps. Barbara will join our team on July 29th and kick off the 2024-2025 school year with our staff in August.
After an extensive search over the past few months, the Search Committee and the Board are excited to introduce Barbara, whose knowledge, skillset, and heart for our mission position Small Steps to thrive in this next season of growth. Barbara has 20 years of early childhood experience and a Master’s in early childhood education. She is ready to hit the ground running, as Small Steps opens the first of our two new Fifth Ward classrooms this fall.
Barbara most recently served as the Executive Director of Main Street Ministries, an organization focused on building paths out of poverty empowered by the love of Jesus. Barbara was also a CPA and previously served as the Chief Operations Officer at Ronald McDonald House Houston. Barbara was raised in Houston, and she and her husband Greg are the proud parents to three grown children. She is a member of Houston’s First Baptist Church and is excited to lead another faith-based organization.
Barbara will work closely with Ana Schick, the Board, and the Leadership Team to ensure a smooth transition for Small Steps. We are fortunate to have had the joy of working with Ana as the Executive Director for the past 11 years, and we are excited to have found Barbara to continue the critical work that Small Steps provides in the Houston community.
