  • Cornelder CodeLabs Exceeds Expectations and Inspires the Future ⭐   From October 28th to November 1st, Cornelder de Moçambique held the second edition of Cornelder CodeLabs in the city of Beira. This event aims to promote the talent, creativity and innovation of young programmers. This year’s event took place exclusively in the capital of Sofala, reaffirming the company’s commitment to local potential.    Over five intensive days, 35 young finalists and recent graduates, divided into six teams, exceeded all expectations by creating practical and technologically aligned solutions for everyday business needs. “We have identified significant talent potential in the central region of the country,” said Jan de Vries, Executive Managing Director of CdM, celebrating Beira as the exclusive venue for the 2024 edition.    Among the solutions presented, the winning group successfully designed a system that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor crane productivity on ships and trucks being loaded, via CCTV cameras. The winning team, comprising young talents Sulehima Abdula, Zaqueu António, Daniel José Anderone, Gelson Gilberto Matavela, Eduardo da Silva, and Gaspar Cossa, was awarded 150,000 meticais. The second and third-place teams received prizes of 75,000 and 25,000 meticais, respectively.    The closing ceremony was attended by senior managers from over 25 companies, enhancing visibility and opportunities for the participants. Cornelder CodeLabs not only showcases Mozambique’s young talent but also inspires other companies to support and develop initiatives that drive technological and professional growth in the country.   The CodeLabs project was created in 2023 by Cornelder de Moçambique, with the objective of contributing to the development of young professionals in the country. The program also aims to support the growth of young programmers by promoting a competition focused on creating innovative solutions in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).    #Corneldercodelabs2024 #Corneldercodelabs #Beira #IT #programmers #Portofbeira

  • New Export Reefer Yard Opens in the Port of Beira Reefer exports through the Port of Beira have been growing steadily. In addition to the traditional seafood exports, citrus fruits are now increasingly using the Beira Corridor. To meet this rising demand, CdM has constructed a new export reefer yard with a capacity of 64 reefer plugs. Conveniently located near the quays, this new reefer yard will help alleviate pressure on the existing yard, which currently holds 144 reefer plugs. In addition, the main reefer yard will undergo an expansion. By the end of this year, its capacity will increase to 224 plugs, with another 64 plugs scheduled for installation in 2025. This will bring the total reefer capacity at the Port of Beira to 288 plugs in 2024 and 352 plugs by 2025. With these expansions, Beira Port is well positioned to meet the growing demands for reefer cargo—both imports and exports—for the hinterland. Managing the increased volume is made easier by the recent launch of the Reefer Monitoring System (RMS). This system enables real-time remote monitoring and management of reefer containers through our terminal operating system, ensuring optimal temperature control and the safety of your cargo. These improvements are part of our ongoing strategy to enhance the Port of Beira’s facilities, ensuring we’re always prepared to meet the evolving needs of our customers and partners. Stay connected with us as we continue to develop world-class infrastructure to support your business. #PortOfBeira #Logistics #ReeferYardExpansion #TradeFacilitation #RefrigeratedCargo #SupplyChain #CornelderdeMocambique #InfrastructureExpansion #ExportReefers #Citrus

Adelino Albano Luís awarded in Beira as the winner of the Prêmio Literário Mia Couto Mozambican writer Adelino Albano Luís was awarded this Thursday, September 12, as the grand winner of the 2nd edition of the Prêmio Literário Mia Couto in the prose category, receiving a check for 400,000 meticais from Mia Couto and Cornelder de Moçambique's CEO, Jan de Vries, during a ceremony held at Casa do Artista in the city of Beira. The Prize, launched in June 2023, is an initiative of Cornelder in partnership with the Associação Literária Kulemba. Adelino Luís won this year's award with his book “Estórias trazidas pela ventania” published by Fundza. The work was distinguished, according to the Prize Jury, "for its thematic richness, linguistic versatility, and consistent construction of the short stories." For this 2nd edition of the Mia Couto Literary Prize, the Jury decided, by "unanimity," as explained on the occasion by Marcelo Panguana, not to award any of the entries in the poetry category, "due to the existence of some weaknesses in their poetic construction, a decision that is provided for in Article 23 of the Prize Regulations." Speaking at the ceremony, Cornelder de Moçambique's Deputy Executive Director, António Libombo, emphasized once again the significance of the Prize, an initiative by CdM in partnership with the Associação Literária Kulemba, bearing Mia Couto's name, as his "literary trajectory serves as an example" for all Mozambicans. He added that CdM will continue to support the development of culture in the country and congratulated the winner of this 2nd edition, hoping that next year there will be more participants in the Prêmio Literário Mia Couto. Adelino Albano Luís was born in 1998 in Chimoio, Manica province. He holds a degree in Philosophy from UEM and is also the author of the book “Cronicontos da Cabeça do Velho (2022)”. #Premioliterariomiacouto #Miacouto #Cornelderdemocambique #Portofbeira #Kulemba

  • Port of Beira’s General Cargo Terminal Achieves Historic Volumes in July 2024. The General Cargo Terminal at Port of Beira reached a historic milestone last July, handling a record monthly volume of 442,000 tons, compared to 199,000 tons in July 2023, marking a 122% increase. This growth was driven by increased imports of clinker and maize for domestic needs, along with a significant rise in wheat, equipment, and sulfur imports for regional countries. In terms of exports, there was notable geographical diversification, with contributions from three countries, including the export of local eucalyptus and Zambian manganese. Zimbabwe continues to lead the export market through Port of Beira. Overall, the General Cargo Terminal recorded a 24% increase in volume over the first seven months of the year, compared to the same period in 2023. The Container Terminal also saw strong growth, with a 40% increase in the first seven months of the year, handling 226,000 containers compared to 160,000 containers in the same period in 2023. Zimbabwe remains a key driver of exports through Port of Beira, particularly with chromium, lithium, petalite, and tobacco. Meanwhile, Malawi registered significant growth in cotton and tea exports. Tobacco volumes are expected to rise in the coming months, further strengthening the port's position as a regional export hub.
