Exterior Work Continues on Bjarke Ingels’ The XI in Chelsea

The stone façade is continuing to ascend the twisting superstructures of The XI. The unique pair of reinforced concrete towers is designed by Bjarke Ingels of Bjarke Ingels Group and stands immediately to the west of the High Line in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea. The 36- and 26-story structures topped out in March and will contain 236 condominiums and a 137-room Six Senses Hotel Resorts Spas, the first location in the United States. HFZ Capital Group is the developer of the 908,250-square-foot project, while Omnibuild is in charge of the ongoing construction at 76 Eleventh Avenue. Douglas Elliman is handling sales and marketing for the residences.

The Pendry Manhattan West Hotel’s Wavy Curtain Wall Reaches Upper Floors, in Midtown West

The Pendry Manhattan West Hotel’s distinctive wavy curtain wall is reaching the upper floors of the topped-out structure at Four Manhattan West. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield Properties, the 21-story building is part of Midtown’s Manhattan West complex, which sits directly adjacent to Hudson Yards. The structure’s fluted glass façade on the northern and southern elevations will easily distinguish it from the other glass-clad towers in the Manhattan West complex. The Pendry will yield a total of 164 guest rooms and a selection of condominiums on the upper floors.

First Look at Disney’s SOM-Designed Headquarters at 4 Hudson Square, aka 137 Varick Street

Today, YIMBY has the first look at The Walt Disney Company’s future headquarters in Hudson Square. The  development will be located at 137 Varick Street and will consist of a pair of 19-story buildings. Demolition is currently underway at the site, and several more structures will also need to be cleared to make way for the mass media company. YIMBY last reported on the property back in late September, noting the project will be formally addressed as Four Hudson Square. Skidmore Owings & Merrill is the designer of the project and Skanska is in charge of the on-site demolition activity.

460 Main Street’s Curtain Wall Reaching Upper Floors on Roosevelt Island

Installation of the glass and brick curtain wall of 460 Main Street, aka Riverwalk 8, is nearing completion on Roosevelt Island. The 21-story, 341-unit building is designed by Handel Architects and is being developed as a joint venture between Related Companies and Hudson Companies. This will be the eighth component in the nine-building Riverwalk rental complex.

Construction Tops Out on 70-74 Gansevoort Street in Meatpacking District

Construction has topped out on a six-story, 112-foot-tall building at 70-74 Gansevoort Street. The Meatpacking District property is part of a block-long redevelopment and revitalization of Gansevoort Street between Washington Street and Greenwich Street. BKSK Architects is the designer and Aurora Capital and William Gottlieb Real Estate are developing the mixed-use office project, which sits adjacent to 60-68 Gansevoort Street, a five-story project also part of the neighborhood renewal plan. Both structures are enclosed in scaffolding and thick black netting, while the eastern end can be seen from the High Line with their exteriors preserved.
