Access Bank Plc reposted this
Access Bank Plc hosted the inaugural Africa Trade Conference, earlier this week at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. We convened industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing intra-African trade. Cape Town remains one of my favorite places to visit — food, wine, cycling, art, and the most spectacular views. If you’ve never been, put it on your bucket list and prepare for a treat. Trust me. But that’s not the story. In case you didn’t get to go, here are my key takeaways from the event: 1. Africa’s trade potential remains untapped due to challenges such as limited access to finance, regulatory hurdles, and fragmented markets. These bottlenecks must be eliminated to drive seamless cross-border trade. 2. SMEs are the backbone of Africa’s economy. Tailored financial products, advisory services, and access to new markets will help them scale beyond their borders. 3. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) presents an opportunity to unify Africa into a single, powerful market. However, success hinges on infrastructure development, and harmonized trade policies. 4. Expanding intra-African trade requires more than just policy. Strong financial support is needed and institutions like Access and Afreximbank are pioneering trade finance solutions to help businesses navigate risks and scale operations. 5. Africa must embrace technology to facilitate seamless trade transactions. Digital trade platforms, blockchain-backed payment systems, and fintech collaborations are helping businesses reduce costs, bypass currency exchange constraints, and boost trade efficiency. 6. Sustainability must be at the core of trade, and there is a growing need for environmentally responsible trade practices like green financing, ethical supply chains, and climate-friendly trade policies that ensure long-term growth. 7. Banks are no longer just financiers; they are active partners in Africa’s economic transformation. Access Bank is poised to be the go-to trade finance partner, offering tailored funding, risk mitigation tools, and advisory services to businesses expanding across the continent. 8. Access Bank is leading the charge to unlocking Africa’s trade potential not just by facilitating trade, but by actively shaping Africa’s economic future. With a strong presence across the continent, we are pioneering end-to-end trade solutions from financing and digital payment innovations to SME support and investment in trade corridors. This is just the beginning. By God’s grace, we’ll see you again next year. For now, let’s keep the momentum going by sharing ideas, and taking real action. Because that’s how Africa wins. Huge shoutout to the awesome team that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring this to life, our brilliant speakers, and every participant who brought their expertise and energy to the table. Did you attend? What do you think? How can we enhance intra-African trade? #africa #trade

This plaque is more than a piece of metal — it’s a story. A story of tough calls and the commitment to do the right thing, even when no one was watching. The IFC - International Finance Corporation EDGE Certification is more than an award. It is proof that sustainability can live in every building, every project, and every footprint we leave behind. This is a time to remember — not because of the plaque, but because of what it represents: a commitment to building a future where every decision shapes a better world. #AccessBank #IFCEDGE #GreenBuilding #Sustainability
