African Climate Stories
Media Production
Educating, engaging, and empowering audiences to take action for a more sustainable environment.
About us
African Climate Stories is a digital platform creating a community of multimedia climate storytellers in Africa. Environmental problems and climate change are posing grave danger to our society. However, the significance and seriousness of this problem are not sufficiently conveyed to various audiences in an effective manner to drive the needed change. Having observed how storytelling shapes trends and culture, African Climate Stories aim to drive compelling narratives for diverse audiences towards climate action and environmental solutions by enabling storytellers and climate activists to co-create stories for environmental and climate change education and advocacy. African Climate Stories is building its community through two key programs: 1) African Climate Stories Fellowship - a cohort based hybrid fellowship program bringing together emerging storytellers, artists and climate advocates to co-create narratives to drive action for environmental and climate change solutions in Africa. 2) African Climate Stories Festival - a hybrid event gathering creative industry stakeholders and environmental sustainability and climate change activists, and innovators to network, exchange ideas and recognize impactful solutions in the sustainability innovation and creative climate solutions space in Nigeria and Africa at large.

I was shortlisted in the top 7 of the Immersive Tech Africa XR Project Pitch out of 100 participants. I didn't make it to the final 3 selected for the XR Innovation Launchpad Awards. But this experience taught me 3 lessons: 📌In a world of limited resources, competition stretches us to dig deep into our inner creativity. I applied for the XR Innovation Launchpad to explore XR immersive content creation for environmental education to boost our work at African Climate Stories. Lesson 1 - Scarcity pushes us to innovate! 📌You may never do something spectacular if you are not willing to make yourself look stupid at first. I knew there was a very good chance I could fail woefully at this because I don't have the technical prowess for immersive tech yet. But I applied anyway. Put yourself in new learning environments, and try out new experiences regularly. You will be amazed by your capability. 📌Failure teaches us grit, if we are willing to see the silver lining despite how we feel. The XR Innovation launchpad gave me the opportunity to meet other XR creators. And through my pitch, they got to understand the work I do, creating room for potential allies with the XR community. Life isn't always about whether you win or lose. Sometimes you learn and collaborate. To all the facilitators, trainers, and participants of the Immersive Tech Africa -XR Innovation Launchpad, I say thank you for the amazing experience. This is a sector where the potential for cross sector collaborations is under-explored. And I hope to build partnerships here someday. If you are using XR, multimedia or art to tackle environmental challenges, check out African Climate Stories for ongoing and upcoming opportunities. You won’t want to miss what we have in store for the rest of the year! #XR #VR #AR #XRIL #EnvironmentalEducation #AfricanClimateStories

Meet Thuku Kariuki, our African Climate Storyteller of the Month for October! "A few years ago, I produced a story on the restoration of Kirisia Forest in Samburu, Northern Kenya. The local community, once responsible for its degradation, became its protectors. It was a win for both the environment and the people, and it inspired me to share more stories that help communities across the world learn from each other." – Thuku Kariuki Thuku, the co-founder of Afrikalive.TV, has spent the last 9 years reporting on nature conservation. He’s worked with outlets like Deutsche Welle, Giving Nature a Voice (Aga Khan University), NTV, and TRT World News.
