About us

Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative is a youth-based non-profit making and non-governmental organization that promotes civic engagement and peaceful political participation, youth entrepreneurship and empowerment project, youth participation in community development, education development programme, human rights, and good governance. BBI has since its establishment been promoting youth activities which range from leadership, entrepreneurship, empowerment and charity donations amidst other lofty programmes. With his operational base in Osun State, Brain Builders International sprang up as a student initiative on Campus at the University of Ilorin in 2014. BBI hopes to be on the forefront in channeling and advocating for the formulation of youth-oriented policies that will give room for youth participation in politics and decision making, promotion of ethical values, enhancing the quality of democratic governance, and making people have passion for entrepreneurship in Nigeria and beyond. Through our innovative programmes, we have helped thousands of Nigerian Youths to discover their potential thereby paving way for them to become world-class entrepreneurs. We have also tried to engage youths in advocating for good governance, democracy, and human right activism through our roundtable discussion, conferences, symposia, and training. In line with our advocacy for youth participation in community development and in the political process, we were able to stage the first ever e-Debate for House of Assembly candidates from Irepodun /Orolu State constituency of the Osun State House of Assembly during the 2015 general elections. We have also staged an event tagged “Meet Your parliamentarian”, where youths had the opportunity to ask their representatives different questions bothering their mind and also make recommendations.

  • Our journey through Kwara South brought us to the esteemed presence of the Elese of Igbaja, HRH Oba Ahmed Babalola Awuni Arepo III. This visit was an important step in our mission to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the grassroots level in Kwara State. The King stated that the project was important at this time, noting that GBV is a social vice that must be prevented by all means. He advised our team to be inclusive in our approach and to carry the palace along. He prayed for the successful completion. We are honored to have HRH Oba Ahmed Babalola Awuni Arepo III endorse us and will continue to work diligently to make a positive impact. Stay connected with us as we continue our efforts to end Gender-Based Violence with the support of our esteemed traditional leaders. This is made possible with support from Ford Foundation. #EndGBVWithTraditionalLeaders #BBYDIStandAgainstGBV #KwaraState

We must explore more cost-effective solar energy solutions to increase the adoption of clean energy and tackle other WASH-related challenges across Africa. Alternatively, we should investigate other innovative, clean and renewable energy sources that can further bolster access to clean and affordable energy. I am happy to have played a part in the construction of a solar-powered borehole and safe study center in Ifon, Osun State, spearheaded by the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative in partnership with Box. My role involved offering recommendations on hydrogeological survey reports and the integration of solar systems to power the project. In response to the pervasive issue of water scarcity in underserved communities, this project endeavors to revolutionize access to clean water through the deployment of solar-powered water kiosks. By harnessing renewable solar energy, these kiosks provide a consistent source of purified water, addressing both water scarcity and the imperative need for eco-friendly solutions. Our vision is rooted in a commitment to empower communities, foster environmental stewardship, and build resilience in the face of climate change. This initiative not only addresses water scarcity through the deployment of solar-powered water kiosks, but it also creates a safe space for girls and women, helping to protect them from violence and fostering a secure environment for learning and development. Special thanks to the Global Director of BBYDI Olasupo Abideen , other team members and Box Fund for making this project a reality. Together, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future.

Exciting! I recently attended the Train the Trainer Workshop on Media Literacy, a joint initiative by Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative and Stanford University . This program aimed to educate secondary school teachers in Kwara state on digital literacy, covering essential topics like fact-checking, institutional bias, and misinformation in science. It was first of it's kind and was so engaging. I'm looking forward to transferring this knowledge to my students and empowering them to navigate the digital world effectively. Digital literacy for all. nationbuilders

A heart of service opens doors to opportunities and possibilities. A few months ago, the Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative identified the need to curb the menace in digital spaces and introduced a Digital Rights and Online Safety Fellowship. As one of the bright fellows, I was equipped with the necessary information through workshops. This gesture gave fellows the confidence to go back to our various communities and replicate what we had learned during the workshop. Moving forward, with the support of Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative, I have been able to facilitate training for more than 500 young minds on Digital Rights and Online Safety, leading to a 20% reduction in cyberbullying among secondary school students. Thanks to Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative for giving me the platform to thrive and give back to my community. Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative SaferNet Initiative

For many girls around the world, fetching water is a daily reality. But it’s more than just a chore, it’s a journey that often puts their safety at risk. Unfortunately, this daily chore can expose them to gender-based violence (GBV). The long journeys to remote water sources increase their vulnerability to harassment, assault, and other forms of violence. It’s a harsh reality that many face, all because clean water isn’t available nearby. This burden doesn’t just affect their safety. It steals their time, keeping them out of school and away from opportunities that could change their lives. And at home, the stress of water scarcity can lead to tensions and even violence, with girls often bearing the brunt. Earlier this year, we at Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative was selected as one of Box impact fund grantee, due to our commitment to empower underserved communities in Nigeria through innovative and sustainable solutions, focusing on clean water access and environmental sustainability. The funding was intended for deploying of solar powered water ATM kiosks which will provide a reliable clean water source with minimal environmental impact. In our alignment to transparency, goodwill, and promotion of social change, a twin-project was commissioned yesterday, at Oke-Alafia Community, Osun State, Nigeria. The project, a solar-powered borehole to make drinking water easily accessible, and a safe space study center for girls; in advancing SDG4. We need to prioritize safe, reliable water access for all, with a focus on the unique challenges faced by girls. By doing so, we can help break the cycle of violence and inequality. 📸 : Abdulraman Yusuf

  • After meeting with traditional leaders in Kwara Central, our team began its courtesy visits in Kwara South with a visit to the Oloro-in-Council. The team was warmly welcomed after expressing their condolences for the demise of their King, the Oloro of Oro. The Oro Kingdom, comprising 11 communities, is now led by Eesa, a chief residing in Iludun-Oro and next in line after the king. The leaders of these communities regularly converge at the David Folayan Library in Iludun-Oro to address issues affecting the kingdom. Our team met with about 15 council members who commended our efforts in putting forward such a project and immediately endorsed it after listening to the project’s mission. The council members shared their experiences tackling gender-based violence and the community-driven approaches they have adopted over the years. The warm reception and strong support from the Oloro-in-Council was refreshing and their insights and recommendations are invaluable as we strive to create safer, more inclusive communities. Stay with us as we continue our journey through Kwara South, forging alliances and driving impactful change. This is made possible with support from Ford Foundation. #EndGBVWithTraditionalLeaders #BBYDIStandAgainstGBV #KwaraState

Microsoft Certified Data Analyst | BI Analyst | Power Platform Developer | Analyzing Data to Drive Informed Decisions

This looks like a good twist of fate, I would say. I initiated the application for the 3MTT Nigeria initiative to be a fellow but somehow, my application did not get through as I couldn't complete the application process at the time because of other engagements. Fast forward, I have started a 12-week journey as a learning facilitator with 3MTT Nigeria, facilitating the first physical training session in Data Analysis and Visualization for the cohort two of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy #3MTT fellows at the Applied Learning Cluster (ALC) hosted by Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative IT firm today in #OsunState. The fellows gathered to deepen their knowledge and understanding of Data Analysis and Visualization after a week of online self-paced learning. For today's session, we went through the Introduction to Data Analysis and Visualization. We considered the characteristics of Data as well as the types of data. We described the characteristics of quality data as an important factor in data analysis. We explored the types of data analytics - descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive and demonstrated the questions each answers as well as the situations when they are used. I guided the fellows through the data analytics process, covering asking the right questions, getting relevant data, investigating the data for correctness and accuracy, preparing the data, analyzing the data, and presenting the results of analysis. We concluded the session by examining the principles of data visualization, demonstrated the different data visualization charts and explored when each can be used to communicate insights and for effective storytelling. I have no doubt in my heart that I love sharing my knowledge through learning and development. I am excited at the learning and growth that this opportunity will afford me and for the opportunity to help other aspiring data analysts find their way on this journey. I am Oluwatomisin OLATOYE let's connect. #3MTTFellows #FMCIDE #DataAnalysis
