The alarming brain drain of health workers in Nigeria in the past decades has caused a gap in the health sector with negative effect on health system strengthening making it difficult to achieve UHC in Nigeria. We appreciate our patriotic frontline health workers who are still delivering quality health care services amidst several challenges such as poor remuneration, high inflation, burnout, huge catchment population resulting to high Doctor/Nurse to population ratio, inadequate equipment, ageing infrastructure, limited capacity building, among others. CHECOD joins the rest of the world to wish every health worker the best and most rewarding year as we continue to save lives for a healthy and prosperous economy. #Workers #healthworkers #WorkersDay #uhc

As we celebrate World Immunization week, the direct benefits of childhood vaccination in reducing the burden of disease morbidity and mortality in a cost-effective manner are well-established. By preventing episodes of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccination can also help avert associated out-of-pocket medical expenses, healthcare provider costs, and losses in wages of patients and caregivers. To this end we encourage government at all levels to increase and double their commitment on immunization financing. #immunization #vaccinination #unicef

To what extent will the Global Fund Grant Cycle-7 (2024-2026) reduce out-of-pocket (OOP) HIV/AIDS expenditure in Nigeria? OOP spending on HIV/AIDS was estimated at over $250 million in 2012 based on NASA. Estimates from NHA 2010-2017 show only a 15 percent decline in the household burden (share) of HIV/AIDs expenditure over the 7 years amounting to roughly a two percent decline per year. There are no significant reductions in the burden over the period 2018-2021 based on preliminary NHA results. The Global Fund is committing $360 million to key HIV/AIDS interventions in its Grant Cycle-7 (2024-2026), with emphasis on innovative strategies, sustainability, transition and co-financing. A key feature is the groundbreaking inclusion of social health insurance coverage for People Living with HIV (PLHIV), which holds immense potential to reduce financial burdens on households. Will this be a game-changer in the HIV/AIDS financing landscape? Will the OOP spend curve bend significantly as a result? The approach promises a “yes” to these questions, but the jury will be watching! #GlobalFund #HIVResponse #HealthInsuranceForPLHIV #PotentialProgress World Health Organization United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Bill Gates Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance #health
