At our recent CEO Breakfast in Lagos, Continental Reinsurance emphasized the need for continuous leadership development to drive growth and expand insurance impact on the Nigerian economy. Our keynote speaker Dr. Akin Oparison, Senior Fellow at Lagos Business School, shared insights on how true leadership means transforming power into purposeful influence. He also highlighted the need for greater trust in the insurance sector, especially among Nigeria’s underserved informal economy. Mutsunge Lawrence Nazare, our Group Managing Director, addressed the importance of diversifying insurance solutions, saying, "Insurance penetration is a distribution issue—we need retail solutions for retail segments." We are proud to share that our Regional Director, Dorsaf Sassi, presented at the 28th African Reinsurance Forum in Cairo. Dorsaf highlighted the critical importance of harmonization in Africa’s insurance sector. She emphasized how aligning regulations across borders can increase market efficiency, improve collaboration, and foster economic growth. She also discussed the challenges to achieving full harmonization, including: → Regulatory fragmentation → Cultural differences → Protectionism She also offered strategies to overcome these barriers—such as creating standardized regulatory frameworks and fostering trust through collaboration. This discussion is vital as Africa’s insurance industry, valued at $68 billion, continues growing and integrating with the global economy. Held at Ulinzi Sports Stadium, our men’s team showcased their skills in the 7-a-side soccer tournament, securing an exciting win against Old Mutual in the opening match.
