🌍 Social Assistance in Times of Crisis: Supporting Resilience in Borno, Nigeria 🌍 In regions like Borno, where conflict and climate crises intersect, social assistance can be a lifeline for vulnerable households. Yet, only 1 in 10 households received aid in the past year—mostly from NGOs, highlighting a gap in reaching those who need support the most. But with each crisis comes a pressing need for stronger, more inclusive support systems. As the crises persist, enhancing social assistance to cover a broader definition of vulnerability and incorporating insurance mechanisms could provide much-needed stability to communities, especially for women-headed and older households facing compounded hardships. In this new publication, Vidya Diwakar, Adedeji Adeniran, Emmanuel Nwosu, Fidelis Obaniyi , and Chisom Udora, dive into the effectiveness of social assistance in Borno and outlines the steps needed to strengthen resilience amid intersecting crises.
