From an investment standpoint, there are three main areas in sports that private individuals and organisations can invest in as they are the major revenue drivers; 🏟 infrastructure - stadiums and arenas, both for major events and for sports development. 🥅 Events - leagues, competition, teams - both professional, semi-pro, collegiate and amateur. 🤝 Services - ancillary services including manufacturing, media, marketing, technology etc. These areas are consistent with the private-sector led investment that exists and are springing up within the sports ecosystem in Nigeria, and by extension Africa. 🏟 A consortium led by Persianas Group Nigeria and NSIA: Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and including Live Nation Entertainment Oak View Group are building a 12,000 capacity indoor arena in Lagos. CEO of Bet9ja, ValueJet, Kunle Soname built a multi-purpose football stadium and training facility for his football club, Remo Stars in Ogun State. 🥅 Shola Akinlade, cofounder and CEO Paystack, founded Sporting Lagos, with the quest to create a successful football entity that will last for generations. Lanre Vigo of Plug Entertainment also founded Inter Lagos FC to create a healthy football rivalry in Lagos. Maxwell Kalu is leading the promotion of indigenous African combat sports with the African Warriors Fighting Championship. The AKO Show is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion owned by the Nigerian born Ultimate Fighting Championship's Kamaru Usman. MD/CEO of Pan African Towers, Azeez Amida is driving the growth of Flag Football in Nigeria with Showtime Flag, the first professional flag football league in the world. Eniola Edun is building digital and physical infrastructure for gaming on the continent with Gamr (Techstars '23), and the largest gathering of gamers with the annual #GamrX 🤝 OPEYEMI BABALOLA's Webber Engineering Nigeria Limited constructs indoor and outdoor basketball uprights, and have shipped them to many African countries. We are building Fancified as the largest marketplace for licensed sports apparel for pro and national teams across the continent. Fola Folowosele is building a football fantasy platform FanBants (Techstars 23) for passionate football fans. 💰💰💰 With the right investment - patient, passionate, permanent capital as KINGSLEY PUNGONG described it - these properties across the key areas of the sports ecosystem can be scaled.
